Disclaimer: Let me start by saying I do not have a full set. I have bought some random boxes and adventure packs. Please feel free to add insight. It's my first deck! I also don't have the most recent pack which contains a major card this deck is built around. Certainly theorycrafting a bit here
Vilya is in here in place of the coming Stone of Elostirion.
The actual starting threat is 27.
Playing Tips:
- Roles:
The team is very flexible depending on item draw.
- Aragorn: Defense/Attack. Has ranged should be used to proc Foe-hammer.
- Arwen: Questing. Resource Gen: Aragorn and Her. And Aragorn embiggening.
- Éowyn: Questing/Attack/Defense. Item dependent.
- First, find Stone of Elostirion, get this steamy train running fast!
- Dig for two restricted items on each character. See below for details.
- First focus on Éowyn.
- Dagger of Westernesse and Citadel Plate are in as they are less restricted restricted items and can be played (early if Dagger) on Arwen or Aragorn to get to Side B of the contract.
- Get to side B of Forth, The Three Hunters!.
- Use Miruvor in place of constants to set the mood and get the early team dynamics running. These add flexibility to the early game and with the constant -1 to restricted attachment costs and double card draw allow you to not feel bad about placing it back on the top of the deck. Though I wouldn't make a habit of it. Note: this item still costs 1.
- Only discard already played uniques, unless in a pinch or with excess. Always try and have, at least, one A Test of Will on hand.
- Team Dynamics:
- Arwen & Aragorn: Use Miruvor or Light of Valinor to have Arwen quest then when appropriate they can Tale of Tinúviel. This can be used to ready Aragorn for a strike with Keen Longbow for some big D and the damage can be smoothed by the bow. Combined with Miruvor or Unexpected Courage to block or snipe with Hands Upon the Bow as well.
- Éowyn doesn't need anyone to rock. Give her some of that good drink with Miruvor, find Unexpected Courage and/or get on Snowmane and she's going to start causing havok. She is a bit item dependent so I usually prioritize her gear after the Stone.
- Using Foe-hammer is slightly tricky as Éowyn is too busy hacking away with Herugrim so you need to use it with Aragorn and Keen Longbow. Which is nice as you can toss some useless cards to get the damage numbers right to kill something and immediately replace those cards.
- Don't forget to use Forth, The Three Hunters! to heal when on side B.
- Lots of extra useless uniques?
- Card Draw: Stone, Heed the Dream, Foe-hammer, Elven-light
- Card Churn: Arwen Undómiel, Keen Longbow, Protector of Lórien
Flavor: What's better than a good love triangle!
We have Arwen wrestling with the notion of retiring to Valinor, which fits with the Stone of Elostirion. The Stone allows its viewer to see the shores of Valinor. This card should be an early game priority. Mulligan if you don't have it in your opening hand. Heed the Dream should target this above all else. Arwen is the heart of this team. Using her Elven-light to cycle cards and culminating with her Light of Valinor. She shines out in the dark enveloping quests with her radiance. She also can help embiggen Aragorn with Tale of Tinúviel.
Éowyn comes riding in on Snowmane leading Windfola for Arwen which helps her questing. Éowyn is probably trying to butter up Arwen before stealing her man. Since after Éowyn gets settled in, she pulls out Herugrim and the Golden Shield to show off for Aragorn. She can be an absolute powerhouse and can pretty much destroy any minion in the game between these items and her innate ability (Add it up: 4 + 2 from the Stone [not really for her] + 3 from Contract + 3 from PoL -Herugrim-> 13 attack then activate her one off for 22 total attack!) Setting her up should be the next priority as she can really provide breathing room with either of the aforementioned items. She'll pitch in to help Arwen quest thanks to Snowmane.
Finally there's Aragorn, who might be the luckiest man in Middle Earth, he's off galavanting around the country side with some serious talent. He should be loosing arrows with Keen Longbow. This gives him some multiplayer help and with the amount of card draw in the deck allows for some damage smoothing. This can be combined with Hands Upon the Bow to pick off foes. Giving him a Dagger of Westernesse can also help with his sniping especially if the minion has a high engagement cost. Manly though Aragorn should be taking hits. Citadel Plate gives him some breathing room.
These three do enjoy a good drink in a proper, secluded wood! Miruvor can fill the gaps between the action reading cards to help lubricate the various interactions between the three until the mainstay action reading cards are found. Also all three benefit from Protector of Lórien. Allowing Aragorn to soak and the ladies to boost their already ridiculous willpower. With the card draw present: Stone of Elostirion, Heed the Dream, Foe-hammer, and Elven-light supplying the fun should be easy.
Finally both Aragorn and Éowyn find some Unexpected Courage while traveling together. Those two do make a good one-two punch against the foes of the free world. And when Arwen joins them between the three there's a wealth of "worldly" experience. Thus they have some of the best answers for the encounter deck: A Test of Will, Feint, and Asfaloth. Arwen is kind to tend to Asfaloth while Aragorn is out shooting his bow with Éowyn.
If things get a little too spicy Aragorn can reset the situation with his innate abilities. Though, in the end, despite some rocky moments, they've all enjoyed each other's company so much they agreed on a contract, Forth, The Three Hunters!. This sets the terms for the dynamic relationship between the three. When playing this should be pushed to side B as soon as possible. With Arwen and Éowyn both overjoyed with the terms of the contract the two get massive boosts to their willpower thus further empowering their relationship with Aragorn and each other.
This deck has so much card draw and deck churning that you're going to see a lot of cards and with the reduced cost to restricted items, at least, two of these lovers will be turned on. Maybe someone get's left out but they'll be back during the next outing. And if you happen to get them all firing at once...
Sauron himself wouldn't be able to handle that action.
(Also the card art is very suggestive)
