A Forth, The Three Hunters! deck which accidentally became rather nicely Helm's Deep-themed.

The idea for this deck came from wanting to pair Erkenbrand's ability with the auto-healing on Forth, The Three Hunters!. Eventually that spiraled into needing access to Tactics for restricted attachments, thinking that Gimli could also benefit from the self-damage-dealing mechanic, and then having Legolas nicely take the role of spirit and willpower providing, while packing a punch himself.

The strategy is pretty simple, just try to get those restricted attachments on as soon as possible so that you can start basking in the willpower. Ideally you'd have Light of Valinor on Legolas along with some weapons and some willpower boosting, you'd have whatever weapons you can find attached to Gimli, and you'd have Snowmane, Armored Destrier, and Golden Shield attached to Erkenbrand, although Ancestral Armor works just as well most of the time.

From my playthroughs it seems like Elven-light or Foe-hammer are absolutely essential in your starting hand. Ring of Thrór was mostly thrown in for fun, but it is nice to be able to ready a 13 Gimli for another go.

On the sideboard, I have cards to make Gimli ranged if you're playing multiplayer and some others that might work well. Although I also have Sword-thain and Helm of Secrecy, which probably seems ridiculous... and it is. But I had a crazy idea, and I wondered if somebody could provide me with an answer. If another player ran Ceorl and passed him over to me, then theoretically I could Sword-thain him and make a fourth hero able to have three restricted attachments, which would be really nice if I had any cards he could actually make use of. But the question I had was with Helm of Secrecy, and if I could legally use it on Ceorl to swap him out for a possibly better suited hero. If so, I'm not sure how that would work... maybe just use the same threat calculating process as on Messenger of the King? Anyway, I just thought that was a funny idea and wanted to see if I could make it work somehow.

Overall a pretty fun deck and very self-sufficient once you can get the contract flipped.

A Sword-thain/Messenger of the King Hero does not have threat cost, so you cannot replace him with Helm of Secrecy (well, you could if you had a zero-cost non- non- hero^^)

Sword-thain Ceorl is a good idea. Assuming he want to play with only two heroes (to use card like Vanish from Sight/Strider) the other player could also go directly with(MotK) Ceorl.

There is also the possiblity of using Defender of the West if you want another hero.

Ah, that is a shame if that’s the case, but I suppose that makes sense. I also thought about using Defender of the West originally! But I just thought it would be annoying to have to have another card to make this already far-fetched combo work. Although it certainly would solve the issue of not having applicable attachments.

hero would weakens you until he has 2 restricted, so make sure you can equip him fast to flipp contract again. nice idea.

@doomguard Hey thanks for the comment. I’m not sure that the contract would flip back over... there’s no condition once on the other side that your heroes have to retain their restricted attachments.

Keeping Count is a very underrated card. Love to see it here.

@flipping, i think u are right. nice, i thought like the others that have to flipped, it go back. that makes it stronger and the idea of 4. or 5.(campaign) hero more interesting.

@Denison I wholeheartedly agree! And although it still isn’t the most efficient in this deck, I have seen a couple of times where I’ve gotten all three copies out, Erkenbrand defends and readies with Destrier, and both he and Legolas are buffed from Gimli’s head start. It’s incredibly satisfying, especially with the Helm’s Deep theme going on.
