This deck is extremely powerful with a rapid setup and geeat late game buffs. It was originally designed to defeat Ruins of Belegost solo, which is quite challenging. The concept is to use To the Sea, to the Sea! to play high end Noldor allies Gildor Inglorion and Glorfindel, then use Narya on Círdan the Shipwright to ready and pump those allies (LoV goes on Círdan so he can quest and use Narya). If you discard and draw aggressively you can set all that up by turn 2 or 3.
After you get setup the deck is meant to cycle though 2 or 3 times so that you can keep playing Gandalf, Elrond's Counsel, and Lords of the Eldar to great effect. Treebeard and Quickbeam are also great allies and Lindir is perfect for card draw and chump blocking. I often play him 4 or 5 times in the same game. The deck is a blast to play because there are so many choices and synergies and you can beat quests that demand a ton of questing while still hitting you hard in combat (like in The Steward's Fear). Another option (which I personally do not prefer) for the deck is to sub in Peace, and Thought for the doomed cards against slightly slower quests to get more consistently good card draw and lower threat.
In multiplayer it has no range or sentinel, so it works best taking all enemies with a partner who does have those things. Also, the Lords of the Eldar buff works on all Noldor but the deck runs no Elrond, so you ally can. It also doesn't run Steward of Gondor or a lot of the popular uniques. Because the questing power of the deck is so high, it also does well with side quests.
Altogether, it is a seriously fun and powerful deck.

Jul 29, 2016I think you're correct. Normally I consider Test of Will weak for solo, but since almost all of my allies are high impact (no chumps to throw away) the deck can get derailed with an early ally discard treachery. It probably only needs 2 copies of Lords of the Eldar, so there's an opening right there. Thanks for the like and comment. |
Aug 29, 2016I'm trying my own hand at a Noldor deck with these heroes so I have a few questions. Is the stargazer-miner combo really worth it? Aren't you already 'set up' by the time this combo starts rolling? Why did you choose Core Gandalf over Hobbit Gandalf? The latter seems like a better fit for Narya. |
Aug 30, 2016Thanks for the questions. I found that the Stargazer/Miner combo is one of my favorite aspects of the deck and most definitely worth it. Here are a few reasons why: 1. You can activate the combo immediately. I often use one Miner to pay for a second, who then immediately activates to pay for another Stargazer (assuming a Stargazer in play at first to set it all up). 2. The Stargazer is Noldor, so you can use To the Sea to get it rolling, and then later the ally can help finish the quest with buffs from Lord of the Eldar. 3. The combo is amazing with Narya. Often the combo is the best target. With Narya synergy the combo is even better IMO than Steward/Good Harvest (which is the best resource accelerator in the game, especially for solo). Furthermore, to answer your specific question, the deck is very hungry for resources, especially since you can run through your deck up to four times and play Lords of the Eldar and Gandalf almost endlessly, so the combo never feels late to the party. Getting Gildor and Glorfindel into play is more impotant, and will probably come before the combo is set up, but that's only a small taste of the power in this deck. I used core Gandalf instead of OHUH becausr threat can be a problem and because his ability to draw of kill enemies was more important than the questing without exhausting. Glorfindel is basically the ally with real action advantage so you don't need Gandalf for so many actions, and because Glorfindel can ready himself you can almost always target Gandalf with Narya. With the massive draw and Stargazer/Miner combo I was playing Gandalf every 3 out of 4 turns or so, unless I was spamming Lords of the Eldar. I think the deck works better that way, but I think experimenting with OHUH is worth a try. |
Sep 03, 2016I've been trying the miners and it's combo with Narya really does make the difference! |
I ended up trying it and I agree, it's both powerful and fun!
I would suggest, however, the inclusion of Test of Will, at least in the sideboard. The deck has 9 allies that can be wiped out by a single bad treachery.
