DECK NAME - The Sixth Army

https://youtu.be/Va2_GKkOEbw

NOTE: This deck is built assuming no treasure cards are used.

OVERVIEW - This is a tough quest in solo due to Bolg's surge effect and the passive effects of the 3 quest locations. Definitely your heroes need some sort of action advantage, but you also need good card draw. These three heroes work well together despite the issues inherit in tri-sphere. I'll unpack the reasoning for each card in this description. This deck has proven to work consistently well. Just won 5 in a row including one where I revealed both a Bodyguard of Bolg and a Vanguard of Bolg in setup. I hope it works for you too!

HEROES

  • Beravor - draw cards each round
  • Boromir - attach 2x Blade of Gondolin; generally you'll quest with him (especially in Battle and Siege) and ready him during encounter phase so he can participate in combat
  • Prince Imrahil - attach 3rd copy of Blade of Gondolin if you get to it, Song of Battle, and Steward of Gondor; usually will quest and you can use chumping or Sneak Attack Gandalf to ready him him for combat if needed
  • Bilbo Baggins - this deck is built with the assumption we will be using no treasure cards; if Henamarth Riversong reveals an immune location early, plan to chose the associated quest stage so you can travel using a single resource

STRATEGY

  • SETUP - Just look at your hand and ask yourself what you have that you can play in round 1 since you will lose all your resources at the end of the round; a few good combos - Envoy of Pelargir w Steward of Gondor to get SoG up and running; Feint to protect yourself in early combat; Sneak Attack Gandalf obviously; Errand-rider and Ranger Spikes to trap any potential enemies revealed; any 1-cost ally for chumping (Henamarth Riversong is best for the possibility that no enemy is revealed allowing him to use his action before refresh)
  • STAGE 2B/3B/4B - usually best to try for 3B first to keep from getting swarmed with enemies; 4B is next in order of importance; thanks to Beravor we're not worried about discarding a card for a few rounds; keep in mind you don't have to clear the quests to avoid their effect, just have progress on them at the end of the round
  • Defender of Rammas - great for Siege questing and can survive enemy attacks unless you get specific shadow cards
  • Envoy of Pelargir and Errand-rider are pivotal for moving resources around early;
  • Faramir - the key to making progress on 2B
  • Sneak Attack Gandalf - consider how best to use him, but it's better to use him to ensure you get past the initial hump so don't hold him back; especially tough to lose a Sneak Attack due to 2B's effect so fire away; his combat action is money in this quest and he's also our only source of threat reduction (usually just 1 instance of threat reduction needed)
  • Henamarth Riversong - try to keep him alive and ready for post combat scrying; the importance of knowing what's coming next cannot be overstated; it is a major way to win against this quest
  • Snowbourn Scout - save him for clearing The Hidden Path
  • Vassal of the Windlord - battle questing and save for killing Bolg in 5B; chump as a last resort
  • Winged Guardian - Siege questing; try and keep him around
  • Blade of Gondolin - can't put progress on quest when an immune location is active location
  • Ranger Spikes - great to use Henamarth Riversong to prevent putting this on a Bodyguard of Bolg
  • Fresh Tracks - use to kill Dark Bats or to injure Bodyguard of Bolg and then kill with Sneak Attack Gandalf; also useful for pinning an enemy to staging that you can't afford to face in the round it is revealed
  • Shadow of the Past - can lead to a free round
