Intro: This deck is quite unique and has many play styles. My personal best use of Tom Cotton so far.
Favorite Combo:
- Exhaust King of Dale (with two other attachments) and The Last Alliance to make Farmer Maggot free
- Play Farmer Maggot dealing damage to a pesky enemy
- If you did not use King of Dale before, use the contract (on Brand son of Bain) to play Hobbit Pipe on Farmer Maggot and draw a card from Brand son of Bain's ability
- In the quest phase, quest with Farmer Maggot's 2
- In the combat phase, exhaust Lily Cotton to ready Farmer Maggot giving him +1
- Attack with Farmer Maggot's 5
- Return him to your hand
- Repeat for profit
I know that the perfect combo requires King of Dale, Lily Cotton, Farmer Maggot, and Hobbit Pipe. However with just Lily and good ol' Maggot, it works just fine.
Other options: The contract also has plenty of other options such as enabling The Shirefolk, triggering card draw from Brand, lowering cost of hobbits via King of Dale, resource smoothing of dale allies with the help of Tom Cotton, and letting Raise the Shire grab anyone.
Pipes: Pipes provide resource acceleration via Smoke and Think and threat reduction via Smoke Rings. These events can be grabbed with Spare Pipe and card draw from Hobbit Pipes.
Resources: Resource acceleration provided primarily by King of Hoarding and secondarily by the contract. Mid/late game options include Traffic from Dale and Smoke and Think.
Card Draw: Drawing is mainly provided by the fatty on the throne, although some tobacco always helps.
Questing: Targeting Brand with the contract each round helps quest for a ton. CelebrÃan's Stone, Silver Circlet, Pippin, Bilbo Baggins, North Realm Lookout, Curious buckaroos, and Bard will always be contributing willpower.
Combat: Tom Cotton is the first defender
Updates: I forgot I needed 10 dale buddies. Add in 3 Long Lake Fishermen to solve this mistake. Add in extra lazy shorty events if more threat reduction is needed.
