This is my first deck with Haldir and I admit I was not sure how well it would go. I wanted as low threat as possible to avoid engaging too many enemies and I was looking at Hobbit heroes, but then I thought how well would Glorfindel and Eowyn work. My concern was that there is no defender from the very beginning, you really need to draw some allies. Glorfindel with his hitpoints can defend some smaller attacks, especially if you have Warden of Healing or Honour Guard in play.

The ideal starting deck is with some card draw. Gléowine or Master of the Forge is ideal opening hand, but Daeron's Runes is also good. A weapon and Foe-hammer also works. I would also consider keeping a hand with Light of Valinor so I can use Glorfindel without raising my threat.

Obviously, this deck is about Haldir of Lóriendir and his ability to kill enemies before they engage you. However, this was an issue when playing Massing at Osgiliath with this deck, since you want one of the rangers to come out of the deck, either as encounter card or a shadow card. So snipping them off from staging is not a good idea. In other quests, this actually proves to be a massive advantage. He will be the primary target for any weapon that you draw.

Glorfindel is hero I used mainly for the low threat. He is good for questing, and can take smaller attack as well as be a good secondary attacker if you have engaged enemies, even one you did not engage this round, so Haldir of Lórien can be used to hit the staging. Depending on quest, he may be a target for Thorongil

Éowyn is an amazing low cost hero, great questor. And her ability can work as a safety break, which I do not always use, but it is good to have it, just in case! If not used, then she provides a great low threat hero and can be also target for Thorongil with her Coreset option.

For allies, this is likely one of my most heavy ally Ent deck, but I feel with the low threat, this is something I can afford, even through they need a round to get ready. Wellinghall Preserver is good for having a secondary healing for the Ents if needed. The Derndingle Warrior is great defender, if you have an option to heal him.

Ally Arwen Undómiel is good for questing and boosting any defender as needed.

I am also trying in this deck the Fair and Perilous and it is a good event for bigger enemies in staging. Also in some quests the event Revealed in Wrath can be good to use, if there are any forced effects and I think it themes well with Glorfindel.

Overall, I am rather happy with how this deck works, but I am always opened to suggestions for improvements.

  • Open the Armory helps you to get haldir equipped.
  • in multiplayer this not restricted bow Rivendell Bow gives him +1 but only with ranged attacks (his attack with his ability is sadly by rules not a defined "ranged attack"
  • cosider some silvan allies e.g. Galadhon Archer they can use the silvan-weapons after the first 2 that go on haldir
  • would include Feint its cheaper than the Derndingle Warrior you try to avoid engaged enemys overall so you only need "just in case" defendings, and then, the Feint is the best
  • would max. Foe-hammer
  • you start in secrecy and with Elrond's Counsel you have a decent chance to stay there or get back to it, so i would include some Celduin Traveler and Ithilien Lookout

would discard at least Derndingle Warrior , Hasty Stroke and Elfhelm for my suggested replacements

@doomguard Thank you for the commend, I should say that I never in my life played a multiplayer game. None of my friends play the game or not living near me, so I always go solo play. So some cards like Rivendell Bow did not cross my mind as it only works in ranged attack.

Feint is a good point, but I only have two copies max, I have single original core set, so do not want to rely on that for defense, but it is a good point.

About the secrecy, I did not try to see how many times I am lucky to get there for more than one round and I do not want to rely on it, but good point, I may want to review that ! Thank you for the feedback.
