This is a deck I made in order to beat A Journey to Rhosgobel, using a single Core Set, the first three expansions and Over Hill and Under Hill. Due to the inclusion of Mirkwood Flock and Black Forest Bats, who demand a ranged or eagle character to attack or defend them, I choose Legolas as my main attacker, who with some help from WiLyador and Dwarven Axe, can easily get the job done. Éowyn is probably the best quester in the game and gives access to some very helpful spirit card like Unexpected Courage, A Test of Will and Hasty Stroke. Denethor, even though he can't defend against those damn bats and birds, is an excellent defender and his ability is very valuable if the previously mentioned spirit cards are not available. Plus it allows Expecting Mischief to function properly killing those same creatures he can't defend.

Why Over Hill and Under Hill Gandalf over Core Set Gandalf? This quest is extremely punishing against exhausted characters, including both Exhaustion and Necromancer's Reach in the Encounter deck. Gandalf does not exhaust to quest and his enormous 4 and 4counters the lack of questing allies and attacking allies in this deck and, since this quest encourages players to hurry and finish it as fast as possible, his threat increasing effect is not a huge problem.

You should only include one copy of Fili if any at all. I would probably run Wandering Took instead of Kili.

Well Wandering Took's ability is wasted if you are playing solo but if not he is a good inclusion if your threat gets to high.

I would include him just because I think he would be better than Kili and Fili. While Wandering Took took is less resource efficient, you can play him a turn earlier. In addition, the took is not unique and you will never draw Fili. An even better option would be Erebor Hammersmith.
