Glóin the Money Printer
I made this deck using the Revised Core Set for solo play. It evolves around generating maximum amount of resources while having enough card draw so that your coffins never overflow.
Printing the Money
If you want money, Steward of Gondor is a no-brainer. However, since its unique, only one sphere can benefit from the resource influx. This is where Glóin comes into play: with his ability, you can potentially earn more resources than what Steward of Gondor offers. So by placing Steward of Gondor on Lore hero and using Glóin's ability, you can almost be certain that you will never run low on resources on either sphere.
Printer Maintenance
Glóin can only take so much damage until he is out of the game, so healing is essential for this to work. Luckily, this is exactly what Lore specializes in: with Glorfindel, Daughter of the Nimrodel and Self Preservation, Glóin can get healed back to max within a blink of an eye (just make sure to not defend against enemies with 4 or more )
Being a true Spendthrift
While having lots of resources is good, its worthless unless you can use it. With this deck however, you should almost never run out of cards to play. If you have Beravor and Gléowine ready, you can draw up to 4 cards each turn! Isn't that something? You can also throw in occasional Valiant Sacrifice for extra measure.
What About Questing?
Early on, Glorfindel is your only hope with 3 . If you get early Celebrían's Stone, consider yourself lucky and apply it as soon as possible (maybe even before Steward of Gondor). Beravor, being a flexible hero that she is, can also help with quests, however its better to use her for her ability. In mid/late game, you should have allies ready to help with questing. Faramir can also greatly boost your questing abilities once you gather those allies.
Protect the Business
It goes without saying that primary defender will be Glóin. Having engaged enemy with 3 is ideal for him, as single Self Preservation or Daughter of the Nimrodel can heal him up back to max. I usually keep at least one enemy engaged so that my money printing business keeps on giving. If faced with attackers that have 4+ , you have several options:
- Use Forest Snare if applicable.
- Defend with Glóin if he has Protector of Lórien and you have extra cards to discard.
- Sacrifice your allies one by one.
As for attacking, this is where this deck suffers the most. Glorfindel has good attack (3 ) but he is almost always busy with quests and Beravor's attack is mediocre (2 ). So you have to rely on your allies to dish out some damage. Sometimes even that is not enough, as most allies have only 1 .
Tips
- Place Steward of Gondor on Glorfindel so that he always has enough resource for his ability. You can also prioritize using resources from Beravor instead of Glorfindel for same purpose.
- Try to maximize Sneak Attack + Gandalf combo potential. This deck has no threat control and starts with 31 , so it can become crucial to use Gandalf's ability to reduce threat.
- Try not to have every Daughter of the Nimrodel in play. One is usually enough, you can have two if things are dire. Just keep in mind she only has 1 and some treacheries can one-shot all of them at once.
- You can use Erebor Hammersmith to retrieve Forest Snare back from discard pile.
- Use Henamarth Riversong to know whats coming next. Keep in mind he is unique.
- Use Gléowine to draw cards, his 1 is rarely useful. If you don't have resources, you can use his draw action once the encounter card has been drawn (to avoid the treachery dealing damage to exhausted characters). Keep in mind he is unique.
- Ever Vigilant is best used with Gandalf or Faramir. Keep in mind that Faramir can trigger his ability twice, increasing every character's willpower by 2 .
