LordOfLórien 22

Pretty much a standard Grimbeorn build I guess.

The deck is too low on for solo play, but it solves a lot of combat and healing for the table.

I added the sidequests so combination is a bit more flexible, but mostly I played it alongside a Thurindir deck, that also ran a Steward on Aragorn for Heed the Dream.

Opening Hand

The most important card in your opening hand is Beorn's Welcome: First, you can of course use it for Grimbeorn's ability, but also when tossing Bifur a resource (which is essentially smoothing in turn 1 and a free resource from turn 2 - little Steward level here). Sadly, if you have that Card in hand and want to be sure to use Grimbeorn's ability on turn 1, you cannot spend the other resource. Paying for Ioreth's and Warden's ability is cheaper when the Welcome is on Bifur and of course for Birna.

Also nice in your opening hand are the Bricks for the Grim Tower - namely Captain of Gondor, War Axe and Rohan Warhorse.

Gléowine would be my main target for Gather Information just to get card draw going. I haven't had problems with this so far.

Allies

They're expensive, but as long as you engage enemies, that's no problem. Wait no Longer can help you with that and if that's not enough, add Dúnedain Hunter.

The Birna-Skin-changer-Beorn combination is also really strong and helps to take a bit of work off from Grimbeorn.

The Vigilant Dúnadan is just a nice extra in enemy-heavy quests when Grimbeorn needs to Sentinel everything.

Sideboard

For more questing + card draw you can use Sarn Ford Sentry. Golden Belt just make Grimbeorn stronger. he can ride two Horses to defend once more (or add The One Ring and Strength and Courage).

Variants

The heroes in the Sideboard basically create different decks, but they came from the same idea, so they're here.

Osbera

If you want a trickier build, use her instead of Bifur. She helps spreading damage on your allies when flipped (combos well with Warden of Healing), and when flipped back, she helps sudo-questing. In that build you might want to add Descendants of Beorn because it's easier to load your Beornings with damage. (Book of Eldacar could be cool here to do that more often). You have to decide if you want to flip her before you got your first healer on the table though, because being able to flip her back to is never really guaranteed in my experience.

Herubrand

He's my idea to get some more on the table. Don't combo with Osbera, because she can't have restricted attachments once flipped. Bifur would then get the Stone of Elostirion. Might get rid of that Guarded Location with Bilbo's Plan pretty easily. Herubrand's card draw only works in quests where enemies attack from staging - Grimbeorn is a natural counter against those. And resources are quite a bit more scarce if you don't have Mablung. You might toss the Vigilant Dúnadan for Descendants of Beorn and ask other players more often to lend you a Bifur resource.

Thurindir

He's an honourable mention because I usually played across from him, but why not have him here for more - you can then put Legacy Blade on Grimbeorn, which can make him crazy strong (alos makes Foe-hammer more reliable). Suggested for quests that have encounter sidequests. You can also add Wingfoot to get another action out of Mablung or Thurindir, which can be situationally useful.

Conclusion: Grimbeorn on his own is a MVP, the rest is decoration. Honestly, I might even tr Knife-work here.
