Don't Go Where I Can't Follow, or "Taste it Again....in Secret"

"Sam did not wait to wonder what was to be done [...] He sprang forward with a yell, and seized his master's sword in his left hand. Then he charged. No onslaught more fierce was ever seen in the savage world of beasts, where some desperate small creature armed with little teeth, alone, will spring upon a tower of horn and hide that stands above its fallen mate." - The Two Towers

This decklist has been sat in my folder for ages, wanting to build a 2 hero deck with Sam and Frodo was high on my list for this Book Club series of decks, since I started making them, but like many 2 hero decklists, really didn't work.

When the Dungeons of Cirith Gurat was spoiled I was incredibly salty (shocking no one). The preview article hinted at card support for Warriors and Weapons, the events that required 2 different traits we'd seen so far meant I was SURE we were due an event requiring a Noldor and a DĂșnedain (and oh look we got one) so my heart was set on a Lore Noldor Warrior hero. And we ended up getting a bloody Hobbit on his stupid cart.

Well my feelings on Folco Boffin have mellowed somewhat, I'm still not a fan of his artificially high threat, but he's certainly opened up some deckbuilding options.

Opening Hand:

It's a secrecy deck people, you know the drill. You really NEED Resourceful in your opening hand. Even though the resource curve in the deck isn't very high at all, you're going to need some time to get set up which means playing a lot of your combo-pieces down as soon as possible. You can afford to hold off on ejecting Folco Boffin from the party for a while as you'll be starting out a 19 threat, you really don't want to wait long. You have very few Lore cards in the deck so any extra resources he's generating are going to go to waste if you don't send him on his way ASAP.

As we're gonna pitch Folco sooner rather than later having a Fast Hitch or a Song of Wisdom in your opening hand is also favourable.

At the Table:

Like I said, the resource curve of this deck is cheap, and we're going to be squeezing even more efficiency out of those cards by hopefully getting a Leaf Brooch on to Frodo Baggins or Sam Gamgee so we can get multiple, and more importantly, cheap uses out of Courage Awakened and Swift and Silent.

Friend of Friends is a god send for our two Hobbits, giving them so very robust stat-lines especially when combined with Bill the Pony and we can get multiple uses out of both either through Fast Hitch or Sam's own readying ability

We don't have a great deal of card draw, we don't want our Lore hero sticking around so we can get some benefit from Sam Stridering about the place, so some Ancient Mathom will have to do in that regard. We should be able to keep our threat low enough to setup but The Galadhrim's Greeting and a Good Meal will make for a fine release valve if the quest is Doomed heavy orthings go awry during questing.

Questing and defending shouldn't really be a problem but attack strength might be an issue, so you should probably play this deck alongside a companion deck with a bit of focus on the ranged keyword.

Sideboard:

I didn't think much about the sideboard for the this one, the main deck was doing what I wanted it to for the most part, and I was trying to avoid the typical secrecy deck where you just dump allies onto the board. But you could remove some of the attachments and the "less than 20 threat" events and put some more allies in with Timely Aid and maybe even Taking Initiative, who knows?
