RedSpiderr 1797

RedSpiderr has a newer deck inspired by this one: Saga Deck 11.2: With Doom We Come

I used this deck for the tenth quest of my Saga Campaign. I am going to try and keep it as thematic as possible, stemming from the 'What If?' of 'What if Gandalf didn't escape from Orthanc in The Fellowship of the Ring?' Please note, I don't own all the cards, so am not able to make the most powerful thematic deck theoretically possible, but constrained by what I have, here is my best attempt.

Having rescued the Ringbearer, the remainder of the Fellowship find Rohan in a state of war. Guided by a repentant Grima and the King's nephew Eomer, Aragorn and Merry are shepherded to the fortress of Helm's Deep where Theoden King hopes to make a stand against the encroaching forces of Saruman. Accompanying Aragorn are the twin sons of Elrond, who have chosen to follow Aragorn despite the Fellowship being dissolved, and Celeborn's mysterious guest from Mirkwood, Legolas Greenleaf, who wishes to see more of the world beyond Mirkwood's borders. And so these companions come to Rohan in her darkest hour, but all hope is not lost. The Rohirrim are valiant warriors, and if any can halt the fearsome hordes of Saruman, it is the skilled cavalry of Rohirrim.

The role of this deck is simple: destroy the enemy. Déorwine, Waters of Nimrodel and Warden of Healing will help to shore up the defense, and Followed will aid the questing, but the mainstay will be this deck’s offensive capabilities. Éomer, powered up by Gúthwinë, Firefoot/Elfhelm and a cycling Westfold Outrider should be able to take out the vast majority of enemies with 10, leaving trample damage to spare. Merry will keep Éomer swinging, made even more potent with Fast Hitch, Rohan Warhorse or even an Unexpected Courage.

If possible, Háma ought to be able to lock down the enemy with repeated Feints or the odd Thicket of Spears, leaving them ripe for attack. Grimbold can pitch in if needed as well for this function. The attachments most needed, Song of Wisdom or Rohan Warhorse, should be able to be found with Foe-hammer or Legolas cycling through the deck. I’ve put in a Gather Information as a ‘just-in-case’ card, for the possible turn where we might win questing by a decent amount.

This deck represents the warriors defending Helm's Deep at the time of Isengard's attack. Déorwine and Grimbold represent the cream of Rohan’s military, supported by Westfold Outriders and the odd Booming Ent from Fangorn weighing in. Because this deck has Merry and Elladan from the original Fellowship, as well as Legolas who has joined them since, this deck is the one to carry The Three Hunters. The attachments represent the martial abilities of the Rohirrim, Rohan Warhorse and Firefoot combining with Elfhelm from the other deck to boost attack, while Secret Vigil and Followed represent the hit-and-run tactics used by Rohan to harray and harras the enemy on their approach to Helm’s Deep.
