This deck is used in the quest Peril at Pelargir as part of a series on the LOTR LCG blog The Road, telling the story of agents of Thranduil on assignment in the wider world.
Legolas has been dispatched to the port of Pelargir in Gondor by Thranduil, along with Argalad of the King's Guard, and Rossiel, chief amoung the King's advisers. Their true mission is known only to them, though they are sent under the auspices of the White Council from the Grey Havens. Upon arrival at Pelargir, the three are met by Lord Alcaron, who has been sent to rendezvous with them on their arrival. He lead them to The Leaping Fish, where he hopes they may be able to talk more privately.
There are two things that make this quest stand out. The first two stages have the battle keyword, while the third is a standard quest stage. As such this deck will need plenty of attack power, both for combat and questing, but also a healthy dose of willpower to close out the quest in the last stage. Here is where Legolas's ability to ready other questing heroes becomes key, especially Argalad who can not only quest, but exhaust to cancel out threat in the staging area. Legolas's high attack makes his ideal for the early part of the quest, especially if given Light of Valinor or Unexpected Courage to allow him to both quest and attack. Mirkwood Long-knife should be put on him first and foremost, with Argalad getting one later on where there will be more threat in the staging area. Mithrandir's Advice and Deep Knowledge will be needed to fuel Legolas's readying ability, with Well Warned counter-acting the Doomed 2 on Deep Knowledge. Once the quest moves from the Battle stages, Ethir Swordsman and Silvan Refugee will become key in helping to push through to the end.
The other notable aspect of the quest is the thin encounter deck. This makes it a prime target for Victory Display shenanigans, as it is more likely that the encounter deck will need to be reshuffled. Scout Ahead can provide a welcome break from battle-questing and provide the player the opportunity to fish out one of the nastier cards in the encounter deck, such as Umbar Assassin or Collateral Damage. Out of the Wild can also preempt these cards, and provide the set-up for The Door is Closed!. 3-cost is steep, but given the devastating effect these encounter cards can have, it is well-worth the effort. Leave No Trace can ensure you will never have to return to some of the worse locations, and None Return does the same for enemies, These should all serve to reduce the cost of Keen as Lances, which can help you out however best you need at that given moment.
Rossiel will be the main defender for this deck. Once a Brigand enemy is in the victory display, she is defending for 4 against nearly every enemy. Getting A Burning Brand or Protector of Lórien on her is mandatory though as she is fragile with only 3 hitpoints. Note that The Leaping Fish location has the City trait, and so once it is explored and in the victory display, she will be questing for 4 on every standard quest stage afterwards. Henamarth Riversong will reveal what the encounter deck will throw at you next, and so you can plan ahead about where best to use Rossiel's stats.
