Card Talk 1188

I was surprised to learn that there wasn't a Bond of Friendship deck that had all the hobbit ring-bearers in it. I thought I'd take the chance to get one out in the wild. Fair warning, this isn't a power deck, but is designed to have a bunch of fun with Master Cards and Guarded attachments. I've always been a fan of Bilbo Baggins and guarded cards because they are powerful and fun. Also, I've played this deck only solo, so I don't know how it will go in multiplayer because of the guarded cards.

Now, this is an interesting deck for a few reasons. First, it doesn't really take advantage of the "Hobbit Thing" - engagement cost higher than threat. When I first built the deck, I thought maybe making Sam Gamgee the true hero of the deck central, but with high starting threat, it quickly became obvious that Frodo Baggins should be the star of the show with help from the other ring-bearers.

With your opening hand, you should probably dig out Inner Strength to give to Frodo Baggins to help with the boost and shadow cancellation. Having that right from the get go is great. If you get Inner Strength in your starting hand, you can choose The Master Ring to help if you get Stinker early on.

The Ent flavor is mainly because Hobbits are hard to get going so they need some strong friends in the deck.

I have also found that I can pull off the The King's Return, Bilbo's Plan combo pretty much every game. That helps get out the Stone of Elostirion, Mithril Shirt, or even Necklace of Girion if it's guarded by a location.

There's probably some tweaking still to do. Of course Bilblo gets all the boosting cards, but I may consider swapping out Mithril Shirt for some other spirit card. A Test of Will always works, but even some other scenario specific card like Reforged may help for those "discard an attachment you control" shadow cards.

Fun deck, not super powerful, but lots of shenanigans that can get going!

too bad you can't give The Ring to Sméagol ;)

Cool deck, Dave! With all those artifacts, could you fit in Ring of Barahir and Well Preserved?

A Test of Will is a must have i guess, certainly with smeagol. extra cancel's for stinker. i would remove the Mithril Shirt and Favor of the Valar. Halfling Bounder and some side quest like Gather Information and Double Back might be interesting. But i play only multiplayer so my point of view is more regarding multiplayer then solo.

Interesting deck, i think even more beneficial for multiplayer might be Legacy of Númenor and Ranger Provisions makes Song of Hope better and other party members as well off course.

playing solo, would perhaps replace all the guarded stuff with Fireside Song and some songs
