A thread on BGG posted the question, are there certain hero lineups that simply can't beat a quest even with a complete cardpool and an expert player?

It was soon suggested that Beorn, Grimbeorn the Old, and Beregond, with the stunning 0 to start, would likely fail against many quests no matter what was in the rest of the deck.

So I built this deck as an initial response. There's as much and card draw as I could pack into a mono- deck with cards like Pippin, Steward of Orthanc, Meneldor's Flight and Westfold Lancer. Then there's tricks like Trained for War, Wait no Longer, and Followed (which combos well with Beregond-the-Tank). I didn't go with Grappling Hook because it only really works on Grimbeorn the Old.

There's also a few wild cards in the deck like Saruman and Helm of Secrecy that might occasionally show up to save the day. Unfortunately, since Beorn is immune, we're limited to heroes under 12 (so no Théoden or Círdan the Shipwright, sadly). However, there is still the amazing Éowyn.

I put this out there as a starting point, and would be interested in other thoughts on how to make this puzzling hero lineup work for solo play.

would include Book of Eldacar for more uses of Trained for War or Wait no Longer

would include 3 Blade of Gondolin reduce axe and sword or that.

the Knight of Minas Tirith and Eagle Emissary is not worth it. would include 3 Wilyador and 3 Vassal of the Windlord together with 3 Flight of the Eagles

solo, would not include the Westfold Outrider and i miss Beechbone

Book of Eldacar (I knew I was forgetting something!) and 2x Blade of Gondolin I could see. Need some Weapons out as soon as possible to enable Foe-hammer (if drawn). Wilyador maybe, Vassal of the Windlord could work if really leaning into Trained for War. Though honestly running 3x Meneldor and 3x Breath of Arda would likely be better to nuke locations.

Thought behind Westfold Outrider and Knight of Minas Tirith is to pull enemies out of staging prior to resolving the quest, though in practice I think I'd drop both Knights and just stick with the Outriders for this)

Beechbone is too slow -- you really need to stabilize in the first round or two or you're shot.
