Basic concept : an enemy control deck

This deck is an enemy control deck. It compensates weak questing by picking enemies off the staging area ASAP and by leveraging Wait no Longer especially in solo play.

Economy : overcoming tri-sphere constraints

Thanks to Amarthiúl and Mablung, the deck can overcome the constraints of a tri-sphere deck. It includes 3 copies of Song of Wisdom to afford the traps and costly cards such as Anborn.

How to play the deck

Optimum play is somewhat counter-intuitive. You don’t want to destroy enemies too soon in order to leverage Amarthiúl and cards such as Halbarad and Sarn Ford Sentry. You need to learn the balance between aggresive engagement and security.

There are quite a few ways to create enemy engagement and keep it manageable. For example, Dúnedain Hunter and Son of Arnor activate Mablung and combines with Coney in a Trap. They also pave the way for Forest Snare and Andrath Guardsman, since it’s still the planning phase. Wait no Longer can be compensated with either Coney in a Trap or Feint. During normal engagement, Steed of the North keeps your heroes ready.

The ideal starting hand has Master of the Forge (to find the traps and Song of Wisdom), some traps, and Wait no Longer to slow down the encounter deck.

In the mid-game, you’re looking to get Anborn to recycle your traps. Anborn works especially with Ambush, since this trap usually leads to an enemy being destroyed before it can attack. I usually keep Anborn and a few attackers ready when an Ambush is set. After the attackers destroy an ambushed enemy, Anborn brings the trap back for the next turn. It’s basically a repeatable Quick Strike. Anborn can also be used to rotate enemies caught in Forest Snare : you kill the ensnared enemy if you have spared enough attackers, then get the Forest Snare back in play (hopefully to ensnare a more powerful enemy).

Test scenario

The deck was tested and fine-tuned against The Seventh Level Nightmare.
