Pure Series:
This is a series of about 10 decks that I made that don’t share any cards with each other. Meaning I can only use Steward of Gondor in one of my 10 decks. This forces me to use different methods of card draw and resource generation.
I have every expansion, but only 1 core set :(
I do include different cards of the same unique character in different decks. (Ex. Haldir of Lórien hero in my Scout deck and Haldir of Lórien ally in my Silvan deck.)
Encounter Deck Manipulation Deck:
This Manipulation deck needs 3-4 players in order to be successful. It is a support deck that helps everyone else out, by controlling and viewing the encounter deck.
Card Draw:
This deck is filled with card draw (obviously, it’s mono-lore!). Galdor of the Havens, Palantir, Mithrandir's Advice, Keen as Lances, Heed the Dream, and Gather Information (Scroll of Isildur can also be used to re-play Mithrandir's Advice). You will often have more cards in your hand than you can play. This is not necessarily a bad thing because having the right choices at the right time is essential in this deck.
Resources:
This is one of this deck’s weaknesses. The only card to help with resources is Keen as Lances. But this isn't to much of a problem because most of the cards in this deck are 1-costing.
Palantir:
Palantir is a perfect fit for a Encounter Deck Manipulation deck! Palantir’s value is based on how much you know about the encounter deck, so the more you can scythe off the top of the encounter deck the better it becomes! You will attach Palantir to Denethor since he is the only hero with the Noble trait.
Victory Display:
There is a variety of victory display options. None Return, Rossiel, Leave No Trace, Out of the Wild, Scout Ahead, The Door is Closed!, and Keen as Lances. The thing I love about victory display is that all their cards are very cheap except for Out of the Wild.
Encounter Manipulation:
Victory Display and Encounter Manipulation go hand in hand, because they are both looking and rearranging the encounter deck. Ravens of the Mountain, Risk Some Light, Gildor's Counsel, Rumour from the Earth, and Henamarth Riversong all manipulate the encounter deck. Risk Some Light and Gildor's Counsel being the best of the cards above, unfortunately they both happen to be the most expensive too.
Shadow of the Past is a really versatile card. It can be used to retrieve a card to play The Door is Closed! on. Or can get you just the right enemy/location for Leave No Trace or None Return. To make things better, when discarding shadow cards at the end of the phase, the players get to choose which order they want to discard them, giving you many choices for Shadow of the Past. With this deck being multiplayer, multiple shadow cards will generally be played each turn for you to choose from.
Allies:
There are barely any allies in this deck, because there are barely any allies that help with Encounter Manipulation. The allies included are not the best, but are needed as a back up defender.
Opening Hand:
The only card you should look for in your opening hand is Palantir (and you don’t even NEED that). Getting the right combination of cards at the start of the game should be easier with Galdor of the Havens.
Writing this review about Encounter Deck Manipulation reminded me of this article. Hope you enjoy! https://talesfromthecards.wordpress.com/2016/02/09/spotlight-slapdash-dark-knowledge/
