This is my contribution to the new Quest of the Week. Passage Through Mirkwood is friendly enough to encourage unusual (or janky) decks, and I decided to try a solo Bilbo Baggins deck to pay homage to the time he spent wandering in Mirkwood in search of his companions during the events of The Hobbit. As such, the allies all represent characters who were involved in the events of that time (admittedly, behind the scenes for the most part).

Gameplay is relatively simple. Use The Grey Wanderer to grab Strider and look for Resourceful in your opening hand. Bilbo Baggins can negate the threat of the opening Forest Spider (or of Ungoliant's Spawn if you choose the Ungoliant's Start challenge) and slowly ping away at its health as you build up resources and get your eagles on the table. Play Sting as soon as you draw it to accelerate Bilbo's ability and to be ready to engage enemies. Once you are ready, you have a multitude of tools to cut through spiders and orcs:

Other fun tricks include using Thorongil to double your card draw (and for an excuse to play Bilbo), playing Bilbo's Plan (really just because it is thematically perfect, not that it's all that helpful), and dealing death to Hummerhorns, Ungoliant's Spawn, and Chieftain Ufthak by a thousand cuts with Bilbo's ability. I wouldn't recommend this deck for general usage, but I enjoyed the deckbuilding exercise and am looking forward to future quests!
