Introduction
Another way to play Gondor. Prince Imrahil readies thanks to Lothíriel's effect and the chump-blockers leaving. The deck benefits from Valiance treshold and a somewhat tricky card : Pillars of the Kings.
I changed the Mormegil's deck in that way :
- Out : Mablung, Glorfindel, 1 x Armored Destrier, 1 x Double Back, 1 x Legacy of Númenor
- In : Ingold, 3 x Valiant Sacrifice, 1 x Squire of the Citadel
Strategy
The Messenger of the King is Angbor the Fearless or Faramir, depending on the scenario's difficulties : the first if you would and could play early Legacy of Númenor and Pillars of the Kings ; the second if you need a good questing pace since the start.
The mulligan can hugely varies according to your playing style and the quest's requirements : sometimes I mulligan for a resource accelerator, sometimes for Pillars of the Kings, or allies.
All attachments go to Prince Imrahil. The potential excess resources of Lothíriel would move to Prince Imrahil thanks to Pelargir Ship Captain and Envoy of Pelargir.
The whole subtlety of the deck lies in the proper timing to play Pillars of the Kings. Soon is very risky (for instance by the 2nd round in Intruders in Chetwood while your board is too thin), late can be... too late. Soldier of Gondor is always a good target for Lothíriel's effect, but it's even better after the threat raise caused by Pillars of the Kings. Another nice little combo candidate I like is Squire of the Citadel if you need some resource and draw (with its built-in response + Valiant Sacrifice). Note that Pillars of the Kings works as a regulator : your threat raises to or goes down to 40. Facing very high threat pressure scenarios, you can include Double Back in your deck.
Imrahil quests, defends early (2 times after fetching Armored Destrier) and / or attacks. Later on, you could chump-block with low cost allies or defend mid-range attacks with Knight of the White Tower.
Rod of the Steward is an attachment I usually add in Gondor mono- decks, but here in bi-sphere and with the LothirieI's jumping effect I prefer just use Valiant Sacrifice, Soldier of Gondor's response, and the draw by Pillars of the Kings.
A nice sequence is to have Steward of Gondor or Legacy of Númenor to pay for several allies, pay a Citadel Custodian, trigger A Very Good Tale with Citadel Custodian, fill your board up, trigger Pillars of the Kings, use Soldier of Gondor with Lothíriel to draw more allies in order to achieve your swarm.
Knight of Belfalas recycle chump-blockers from the discard pile.
Do not use LothirieI's action every round. Use it when needed or when you can get some financial or drawing advantage + the readying advantage for Imrahil.
Adjustments
Another copy of Armored Destrier can be useful in scenarios that discard your attachments or delve your deck.
Have fun !
