Description:
The Beacons are Lit succeeds by "cheating" allies into and out of play via Lothíriel, thereby consistently triggering Éomer's attack buff. Many allies in the deck also provide unique and powerful bonuses by being discarded from play, chief among those are the unique Rohan allies like Grimbold, Gamling, Éomund, and Háma.
King Théoden provides a great resource advantage by reducing the cost of an ally each turn. He may also be outfitted for either defence or attack by harnessing Golden Shield and Herugrim. Théoden and Éomer both have their unique mounts in the deck to provide hefty bonuses: Snowmane, Firefoot. These mounts can be located more easily with Westfold Horse-breeder.
Be sure to utilize the flexibility of your Rohan allies to address the situation at hand. Do you need more quest points this round? Send Escort from Edoras. Is there an annoying enemy in the staging area? Ping them with Westfold Lancer. Do you need the services of one of your heroes twice this turn? Break some horses with Westfold Horse-breaker.
Role:
The deck plays as a solid, flexible all-arounder, capable of solid questing, offense, and defense. You will need to make difficult choices almost every round to determine the best way to utilize your allies' discard abilities. It's important to trigger Éomer each turn, as he will be your primary source of offence, but this could leave you in a position of sending a non-useful ally in via Lothíriel. This will not be as important in a multiplayer game, especially when played alongside Silvan Elves, who also have characters leave play regularly and this counts to trigger Éomer.
Key Cards and Combos:
For resources and card draw acceleration, the deck leverages a couple of horns: Horn of Gondor, and Horn of the Mark. You should aggressively search for Horn of the Mark in your opening hand, using a mulligan if necessary to try to grab it, and it should be played on Lothíriel as she has both Gondor and Rohan traits. The efficiency of the entire deck is enhanced by this one card, as it will provide you the card draw necessary to have multiple choice of allies to send in via Lothíriel.
Firefoot is the more consequential of the mounts, as the horse will help Éomer successfully attack for 7 each round, and provide him the ability to destroy 2 or more enemies in a single stroke.
The deck further manages enemies with events like Feint, Quick Strike, and Oath of Eorl. Be sure to leave a resource available on Éomer to pay for these events in case you get surprised.
Finally, if you need a knockout punch, use The Muster of Rohan to flood the board with your cavalry for one final charge.
