The Purple Wizard 1151
This deck is meant to be paired with TheChap's "Flightmare Noldor" deck in our Nightmare Campaign against "Flight to the Ford."
The main goal here was to get Gandalf into play ASAP to help with both questing and combat. This quest hits hard and fast but there's nothing in it that raises your threat, so I wanted to use threat as fuel to help complete the quest faster. Gandalf fits that bill perfectly, as well as giving my deck a defensive option and/or a ranged help once Shadowfax is on him. Chad's deck has Deep Knowledge to help this deck get going and Heirs of Earendil can discard the worst location (that would be Ettendales) once Súlien (needed for her uniqueness and Dunedain trait) is in play.
Other card choices:
~Mirror of Galadriel is there mostly to find Gandalf and Sulien. Heed the Dream is also here for the same purpose.
~Haldir of Lórien won't be sniping any Nazgul in this quest but Ranger Spear will help him kill them faster, especially if they have an attachment from the encounter deck on them.
~Shadow of the Past is there so we could toss any burdens we gained back on top of the encounter deck then remove them from the game with Out of the Wild, found in Chad's deck. We both had copies of it in case the surge from the burden revealed a treachery and we had to send an extra card back to the top of the deck to get to the burden.
This is the deck I played with, but with 20/20 hindsight if I were playing again I would make the following changes:
ADD
1 Hasty Stroke (the shadow effects were AWFUL)
1 Gandalf's Staff (can discard a shadow effect!)
1 Ghân-buri-Ghân (strong questing and some rough travel effects would have been worth discarding him for...a better choice than Mablung)
3 Drinking Song (would have been a better choice than the Mirror of Galadriel to find Gandalf.
DROP
1 Ranger Spear (can only play two of them and not the most important card to find)
1 Mablung
1 Elven-light (Only need to find one of them and there are several ways to do that.)
Minor changes, but they would make the deck better. This was a GREAT game and I hope you watch it!
