RedSpiderr 2270

RedSpiderr has a newer deck inspired by this one: Saga Deck 20.1: Mount Doom

I used this deck for the seventeenth quest of my Saga Campaign. I am going to try and keep it as thematic as possible, stemming from the 'What If?' of 'What if Gandalf didn't escape from Orthanc in The Fellowship of the Ring?' Please note, I don't own all the cards, so am not able to make the most powerful thematic deck theoretically possible, but constrained by what I have, here is my best attempt.

Victory has been bought on the fields of Pelennor, though the cost was great. Many lives have been lost, and many who traveled hence from far off Rohan, or from distant Arnor will never again return to see the plains, fields and woodlands of their home. But there will be time later to remember the slain in immortal song because for now a matter yet more pressing is at hand. The Lords and Captains of the West have met together and determined their last best hope lies in the hands of two small Hobbits. To draw Sauron's gaze from the land of Mordor, Aragorn Elessar leads the final mustered strength of Gondor, Rohan and Arnor to The Black Gate. There they shall make one last stand against all chance of success, and hope against hope it is enough to allow the Ringbearer the opportunity to reach his goal at the Cracks of Doom itself.

This deck's primary function is to provide defense for the two decks. Defender of Rammas and Winged Guardian can be summoned easily enough, bolstered by Round Shield and Spear of the Citadel. Eagles of the Misty Mountains can also contribute to this effort with Eagles bouncing in and out, especially when facilitated by Flight of the Eagles. Then once you have Support of the Eagles, give it to Aragorn as he will most likely be the chief defender. If needs be, Grimbold can save you from an attack, Boromir can soak up damage and retaliate and Arwen Undómiel can boost your defenses wherever she is needed the most.

Key to this deck's success is getting out Resourceful. You start off in Secrecy, so mulligan hard for it. Take it over Light of Valinor, over Unexpected Courage, even over A Test of Will. There are a fair few expensive cards in this deck, such as Meneldor and Prince Imrahil. You will have ample card draw with Legolas, Foe-hammer and the Boon Glamdring, but you need to pay for these cards. If you can get a second copy in the first turn or two, it is worth paying for just so that you can sustain your engine when you get thrown even more encounter cards.

Represented by this deck are elements of Gondor and Rohan's military forces as well as the eucatastrophic arrival of the Eagles at the Morannon. Mighty names are represented here, and many heroes whose courage is not dimmed by their anonymity. Everyone has their part to play, and no act of valour is needless in this most desperate of times.

Unfortunately, without a Song of Battle, you can't attach Support of the Eagles to Aragorn, as he doesn't have the tactics icon.

This looks great and wonderfully thematic. I am logging this as inspiration for my campaign when i get there...
