A deck concept to make use of Palantir. Denethor is here to make ally swarm easier. The big weakness of the deck is early game questing, so I recommend looking for a hand of cheap allies and/or Visionary Leadership. Another good card to open with is Taking Initiative as it is an almost guaranteed extra 2 cards. It also has a good chance of milling an ally which can be returned to hand with Knight of Belfalas. The Grey Wanderer not only lets you start the game with the Palantir for much needed card draw, but also never has wasted actions as Denethor can exhaust on-demand for either the Palantir or Captain's Wisdom.
The Palantir allows the players to know exactly what they are questing against for up to 3 players (excluding surge), which allows the players to quest exactly or know how many defenses/attacks they need to hold back. The only problem is that your threat quickly climbs. My general strategy is to get as close to 30 threat as possible before using Pillars of the Kings to jump into valor to improve Angbor the Fearless, Veteran of Osgiliath, and Soldier of Gondor. Another strategy is to have a partner deck run Aragorn and Desperate Alliance to start back at 8 threat.
Some possible deck changes are included in the side deck, but I'm not sure how to improve the deck (not the best deck-builder here). The deck is fun, but not uber powerful. Any tips would be welcome.

Jul 15, 2020Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly, resources have never been a problem between Denethor's starting 2, Captain's Wisdom, and the contract. I only own 1 core set, but 3 sneak attacks with Gandalf would be a good add. I do really like having multiple Taking Initiative just to make sure I get it early. Plus I like being able to mill allies to recur with Knight of Belfalas. I've never used Keen as Lances in a deck without other victory display cards, but it would be pretty cool here. Cheers! |

Also, I've never found resources to be a problem between Steward, Captain's Wisdom, and the contract, but I'll try Resourceful to see if it helps. I've never used Keen as Lances in a deck without victory display control, so I am curious to try that out. It seems like a good fit. I'll try out your suggestions next time I play. Thanks! |
Jul 15, 2020Including Lord of Morthond would help with card draw and having Herald of AnĂ³rien would increase the amount of allies you could get into play quickly especially as doom 2 isn't really a problem with where this decks threat is going. Just some thoughts. |

Jul 16, 2020Thanks @sheldomar and After adding 2 resourceful, 3 Gandalf, 2 sneak attack, 3 herald of Anorien, and 2 Lord of Morthond, I was able to beat the Siege of Cair Andros fairly easily in solo. I've found that even with all the resources, Keen as Lances is not worth paying 5 for. I'd keep it in the side deck and bring it in if another deck is using victory display cards. Cheers! |
nice idea, to make the palantir work! i would add 3 sneack-attack+gandalf and 3 keen as lances, to have better control over carddraw and thread. money should be enough, if not, add some recourcefull.
What would i reduce:
for gandalf+sneak
then depends on testing, see if its worth try to reach 40 and use of pillars or take keen as lances, that can be used every time. if it seems that res are the problem, replace the squirrel with recourcefull.
i think this deck will really shine together with an other gondordeck. (perhaps beregond, boromir, lothiriel, a deck that can handle the fighting and take benefit from the visionary leadership and denethors ability)
