"'There is nothing, Lady Galadriel', said Gimli, bowing low and stammering. 'Nothing, unless it might be - unless it is permitted to ask, nay, to name a single strand of your hair, which surpasses the gold of the earth as the stars surpass the gems of the mine. I do not ask for such a gift. But you commanded me to name my desire'."
― Gimli, Farewell to Lórien
This is a for-fun deck revolving around the best couple in Middle-earth, Gimli and Galadriel. The goal is to load up Gimli with a bevy of attachments, Citadel Plate being the centerpiece. To offset the expensive cost, there are a few ways to help get the plates into play. Master Ironsmith gives you a 1 resource discount, and bails you out if the Mirror of Galadriel accidentally discards your plate. Resourceful on Gimli will build up the required resources more quickly. Finally, if you get lucky Well-Equipped could help you cheat in a Citadel Plate or another attachment.
Aside from Mirror of Galadriel, Nenya, and possibly one copy of Unexpected Courage, everything goes on Gimli. Arod and Mighty Prowess will help you make the most out of the high kill count Gimli will muster. Unexpected Courage and Miruvor provide some much needed readying for Gimli, allowing him to slay multiple foes per round. Grappling Hook allows you to take advantage of Gimli's high for a key questing push, and Strider will give you free willpower in the early game.
There are a few cards thrown in for defensive purposes, as once Gimli is fully powered you don't want to be taking attacks with him. Close Call can be used two ways: one is to fine-tune the amount of damage Gimli takes during an attack, allowing you to take him to his threshold safely. The second is as insurance against any direct damage effects once Gimli is near death. Honour Guard functions similarly. Quick Strike takes advantage of Gimli's high to eliminate any foes before they can attack. Defender of Rammas and Arwen Undómiel are staples for .
To round out the deck, Galadriel's Handmaiden, Celduin Traveler and Elrond's Counsel provide some cheap as well as threat reduction for keeping you in secrecy a bit longer, A Test of Will is an auto include in any spirit deck, Azain Silverbeard gives some early game damage, and what Gimli deck would be complete without his BFF Legolas?
I like the theme of the deck. I am playing Gimli in a campaign deck and just got the 3 golden hairs boon for thematic reasons.
You might consider throwing in 1 or 2 Imladris Stargazers to help make Well-Equipped a little more consistent. Just a thought. Take care.
