Schrodingers Hat 54

This is the companion to my Elrond's Advice deck. Where that deck has lots of Noldor trickery, this one has two straightforward jobs - defend the squishy elves while they quest, then murder everything that moves. I've used the two together six times, with a solid five wins.

During setup you are just looking to give Denethor his rightful title of Steward of Gondor, mostly to pay for your expensive legendary allies Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, and Faramir. Having said that, two of the five wins with this deck have been when Steward of Gondor didn't show up until late (or even at all), so it isn't an auto-loss if you don't see it immediately.

The most important ally is Legolas, who will often net you an extra two cards a turn once Círdan the Shipwright has Narya. There's not much other draw in this deck bar Sneak Attack Gandalf (though Gandalf really isn't needed for much else in this deck except occasional threat reduction). The Errand-riders can pass resources to the Noldor so they can pay for more of the ridiculous number of cards they draw.

Hauberk of Mail does some hard work in this deck; the first one goes on Beregond along with his Gondorian Shield and Armored Destrier. After that they go on the Redwater Sentry and Gimli. The second Gondorian Shield and Armored Destrier are well worth it on Denethor, to go along with Denethor's Gondorian Fire.

Most of the time you'll want to draw as many enemies to this deck as you can, but Legolas and his merry band of Galadhon Archers can shoot holes into any enemies that engage the Noldor deck.

The first versions of this deck used Boromir or Éowyn instead of Beorn (just sub in the Veteran of Osgiliath for ally Boromir if using hero Boromir). They both work well - Éowyn means you at least contribute something to questing - but I like the extra killing power of Beorn, and he's a back-up Sentinel.

I'll be trying Grimbeorn the Old and Beorn's Rage in the deck later, as he should work well with this deck - just as soon as I get a copy of the Withered Heath. The other card I've considered is A Very Good Tale - it will go nicely with the high-cost allies in this deck - but it honestly just hasn't seemed necessary yet.
