"Home is behind the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight.

Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall fade"

Introduction

We already did sing on the road, that was fun, but our love of tales was weak.

Now that Pippin works for Denethor, he is stronger. But he also has to sing more !

  • Denethor is there only for his money (hope he's not offended). But he is also a good defender.
  • Pippin is there to sing for Denethor. He particulary has those qualities :
    • He is a hobbit so he can enjoy a good Fireside Song
    • He has low threat (6)
    • He is Lore color so he can love tales
  • Beravor is there because she saw some light... Yes, rangers are like moskitos, they are attracted by light !
    • She also is an awesome drawer
    • And she's Lore too, ready to love tales Pippin will sing

Strategy

To be happy, Denethor wants two things:

Wait, Pippin is the Steward ? Not Denethor ? Isn't that crazy ? Of course it is ! But Denethor has this bad habbit to often... How to say... Die... So, let's nominate someone who'll stay.

So we have two things to handle:

Getting the Fireside Song is the job of the Rivendell Minstrels.

To get those Love of Tales, we have 3 solutions:

  • have it in starting hand, which is the easiest way,
  • get it through Heed the Dream. This card is the reason Denethor is there : so we can get any card on first round ! Bouyah !
  • if both first solutions didn't match, we still have all our drawing cards and our [Master of the Forge](/card/04134]s.

Details about some cards

All songs go on Pippin, except the first Song of Wisdom which is for Denethor, so he can get a Love of Tales.

Firstly, I know, there are way more than 50 cards in this deck ! But Denethor loves songs so much, we cannot restrict him ! There are 26 cards that are drawers/tutors, so most of the time, we draw like nuts.

Bartering is so funny, especially when you have the 3 Love of Tales in play: for 0 resources, get back Song of Eärendil and replay it. Then you just got one draw and 3 resources for free ! That's crazy !

As Pippin quests very strongly (up to 17), The Road Goes Ever On and both side quests are easy to use to have very handful bonus.

Sometimes Gandalf appears. But Denethor doesn't really like him so Gandalf never stays... He only lowers our threat. But he can also be a drawer if Love of Tales is still hiding.

The Good Meals are obviously for Lórien's Wealth, but can sometimes be played for cheaper events or for The Houses of Healing, which can revive a hero in case we had an accident (yes, Denethor sometimes die in early game, which is not a very big deal but... Who would Pippin sing for then ?)

Will of the West can save a lot of things :

  • if Pippin died (accidents happen), The Houses of Healing will return him and all his attachments will be shuffled back in the deck
  • it gives us 6 theorical Gandalfs, which is very useful
  • it gives us back cards we could have had to discard for Imladris Caregiver

Déorwine, Elfhelm, Beorn, Haldir of Lórien, Jubayr and Yazan are our late game strong allies. Maybe there is some better choices, I'm open to suggestions.

Imladris Caregiver is there because sometimes healing is important. Maybe could it be replaced by Warden of Healing or Ioreth, can't make my choice. But Imladris Caregiven has his 2 hit points making him more resilient.

The deck is not easy to play, as there are lot of decisions to make, but it's a real pleasure to play all those songs and make so many things on each turn. It is surprisingly fast to setup and is solid enough to stand while everything is ready.

Once ready (i.e: Pippin + Fireside Song + lot of songs, and 2 or 3 big allies in play), nothing can stop us !

Hope you'll enjoy this deck as much as I do.
