VOICES LIKE HORNS

"Suddenly he stopped... and raised his curled hands to his mouth so that they made a hollow tube; then he blew or called through them. A great hoom, hom rang out like a deep-throated horn in the woods, and seemed to echo from the trees. Far off there came from several directions a similar hoom, hom, hoom that was not an echo but an answer."

DECK OVERVIEW

This deck is half of my "March of the Ents" Fellowship, along with "Footsteps Like Drums", and focuses on Ents of the Lore sphere. The role of this deck in the Fellowship is questing, healing, card drawing & threat reduction, while "Footsteps Like Drums" handles combat.

HEROES & ATTACHMENTS

Since this is the deck designated to handle questing, all three heroes should commit to the quest when able, and leave combat to the other deck.

Elrond 3 2 4(5) 6
Light of Valinor allows Elrond to defend, if needed, after questing. Ent Draught, Cloak of Lórien & A Burning Brand help with defense, while Protector of Lórien can help with both questing & defense. Steed of Imladris provides some location progress.

Arwen Undómiel 3 1 2 3
Arwen also has Protector of Lórien and can be a secondary defender, if necessary. Steed of Imladris provides more location progress.

Mirlonde 2 2 1 3
Mirlonde can attack in a pinch, but is in the deck mainly for her starting threat reduction, as I wanted to keep this deck's starting threat below the 31 of "Footsteps Like Drums", so that that deck can engage most enemies. Other options include, Pippin for additional card drawing at the same starting threat; Beravor for card drawing for both decks, but at a starting threat of 32; or Haldir of Lórien as a better attacker, but at a starting threat of 31.

ALLIES & EVENTS

The deck is pretty much a Silvan/Ent hybrid, with two-thirds Silvan allies and one-third Ent allies. The Tree People & Island Amid Perils help muster & recycle Silvan allies for their effects. And, although Ents in this deck can't benefit from Faramir's readying effect, Treebeard can ready any Ent (including himself), and Quickbeam can self-ready.

The main deck mechanic is the discard-from-hand effects of Arwen Undómiel, Protector of Lórien, Steed of Imladris & Elven-light. Elven-light is a good card to mulligan for.

Arwen Undómiel provides the only resource acceleration, though Faramir & Mablung (in "Footsteps Like Drums") can provide resources via Errand-rider.

Elven-light provides card drawing for this deck, while Gléowine & The Long Defeat provide card drawing for both decks.

Threat reduction for both decks comes from Gandalf, Galadriel's Handmaiden, Island Amid Perils, The Galadhrim's Greeting, Double Back & Secret Vigil (from "Footsteps Like Drums").

Healing for both decks is provided by Galadhrim Healer for heroes & Wellinghall Preserver for Ents. The Long Defeat works on both heroes & allies, and Elrond's effects boosts all healing effects. [The way I read Elrond's effect, if The Long Defeat is used to heal 1 damage on 5 different characters, Elrond would heal an additional 1 damage on each character.]
