My first try at an eagle deck. I made it to pair up with my solo deck (https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/4619/elronds-posse-solo-1.0) for playing with a friend or when I feel like playing twohanded. Based on smashing together the general concept of a tactics eagle deck with some elements of Seastan's Boromir.

Version History 2.0: Removed Gwaihir and Landroval as they were barely used during play. Added 1 copy of Gondorian Shield. This trimmed the deck down to 50 and increased the consistency of the early turns. Gwaihirs effect was less needed since most of the discarded eagles go under Eagles of the Misty Mountains and not to the discard pile. Landroval was already a part of the sister deck in the 2 player fellowship that this deck is for, so less needed. Thanks @The White Wizard for the useful feedback.

Concept

Boromir and Éowyn hang out with some eagles and have fun adventures while Galadriel supports.

Strategy

The idea is to get Support of the Eagles on Boromir with some eagles out as soon as possible. Support of the Eagles boosts his stats for one phase which he can then use multiple times because of his readying ability.

Galadriel supports as best she can. Mirror of Galadriel helps her sift through the deck looking for the right card. Nenya boosts willpower for others (usually Éowyn). Optimally you have Silver Harp out to counter the downside of Mirror of Galadriel. Her threat reduction/ card draw ability also helps in feeding your hand and counter acting Boromirs downside a little.

Éowyn keeps the starting threat nice and low (real starting threat is 26, not 29) and can contribute significantly to questing, even with Nenya still out of play. She can also generally solve one "oh sh*t" moment if an unexpected big baddie comes out of the encounter deck by whacking it upside the head with her +9 ability. The more of her attachments you find with either Mirror of Galadriel or Gather Information, the more she becomes quite scary herself (quest successfully, ready, attack for 5).

The eagle part of the deck is tired old get Eagles of the Misty Mountains out and then get Vassal of the Windlord/Winged Guardian under it as many times as possible so that it becomes a prime target for Support of the Eagles.

Since there is a blue hero I threw in some Unexpected Courage, A Test of Will and Hasty Stroke because I always seem to do that if there is any sort of around.

Advantages:

  • good combat potential
  • solid for a mostly deck
  • low starting threat and decent threat management
  • decent card draw

Concerns:

  • few rounds of setup needed
  • low shadow effect counter play
  • no healing
  • resources can be limiting at times.

(the last three are less of a problem when playing with my solo deck as Warden of Healing, Arwen Undómiel and extra Hasty Strokes help there).

Things I am wondering about:

  • The Unexpected Courage inclusions are proxies when playing with my other deck since I dont have 5 core sets. If there are suitable suggestions to replace I would appreciate that.
  • Steward of Gondor + A Good Harvest works well enough but I find it inelegant. If there are in sphere solutions to the resource problem I am totally open to that.
  • Are there any obvious "holy crap card X would make this deck 10 times better" inclusions that I am missing?

I don't know that you need Unexpected Courage given that's Boromir's thing. Also, I think blue resources are going to be the hardest thing to come by.

@BizTheDadThanks for the feedback.

And correct, the Unexpected Courage isnt meant for Boromir but rather so that Galadriel can add to questing, reduce threat and draw a card all in the same turn (which also means that Boromir gets one 'free' activation).

is indeed as mentioned in the description a bit of a limiting factor. It is off set by the fact that this deck shares a fellowship with an Arwen Undómiel deck.

Now, the other deck also includes Unexpected Courage so I can definitely see running this deck without it as an option. If you have any suggestions for a card to take the spot that meshes well with the rest of this deck, I am open to suggestions.
