Card Talk 1231

This deck is another take on the original Slippery Silvans that we released years ago with the Ered Mithrin cycle, more specifically, Fire in the Night. That AP came with Thranduil to help Silvans have a decent defender and an action that really leans into the Silvan archetype. That, coupled with Galion, The Elvenking, and Quicker Than Sight made the pack a must have with Silvans.

There isn't much that's different about this deck except that I modified it after we did a show on the Lorien Guide so I wanted to see how well a little location control would work in the deck. I didn't know the campaign came with the Spyglass, but it, coupled with Lórien Guide, Woodland Courier and Asfaloth made just enough difference for the locations not to add up during the scenarios. It almost felt like cheating.

Piloting instructions are pretty usual. Galadriel gets Nenya, of course, but with the shift in the deck towards more allies, she should also get Steward of Gondor. It's also great to get her going with Unexpected Courage, but that's not necessarily new.

Thranduil gets all the defensive stuff and should start with the The One Ring and Inner Strength. If you get Ancestral Armor (another Ered Mithrin winner!) out on him, that's awesome, but a Silvan Tracker can also accomplish much the same. It's important for Unexpected Courage and/or The Elvenking to get on him too so that multiple enemies can be defended each round.

Celeborn really is just out there for smoothing. His passive ability is great (as we all know) but the focus of the deck is not to build him up to be a powerhouse. This is a swarmy deck so Celeborn should be used early to quest and later for combat. He is a great target for the Naith Guide, so that's good.

Rúmil is a killer here, but the best ally for this deck is Legolas because his card draw is really good. Pray that The Tree People turns Galion or the Naith Guide or the Galadhrim Minstrel into Legolas early on. After that, the deck just sings!
