RedSpiderr 2270

RedSpiderr has a newer deck inspired by this one: Saga Deck 20.2 Sammath Nuar

I used this deck for the eighteenth quest of my Saga Campaign. I am going to try and keep it as thematic as possible, stemming from the 'What If?' of 'What if Gandalf didn't escape from Orthanc in The Fellowship of the Ring?' Please note, I don't quite own all the cards, so am not able to make the most powerful thematic deck theoretically possible, but constrained by what I have, here is my best attempt.

Victory has been bought on the fields of Pelennor, though the cost was great. Many lives have been lost, and many who traveled hence from far off Rohan, or from distant Arnor will never again return to see the plains, fields and woodlands of their home. But there will be time later to remember the slain in immortal song because for now a matter yet more pressing is at hand. The Lords and Captains of the West have met together and determined their last best hope lies in the hands of two small Hobbits. To draw Sauron's gaze from the land of Mordor, Aragorn Elessar leads the final mustered strength of Gondor, Rohan and Arnor to The Black Gate. There they shall make one last stand against all chance of success, and hope against hope it is enough to allow the Ringbearer the opportunity to reach his goal at the Cracks of Doom itself.

The single most important card in this deck is The Storm Comes. Mulligan for it at all costs and quest hard for it on the first turn. Once it is in the victory display, you will be able to get out your allies as fast as you are able. Beravor and Gléowine will keep your card draw ticking over, supplemented by Deep Knowledge and Heed the Dream. Legacy of Númenor will keep you in coin, as Steward of Gondor ought to be powering Elrohir's defensive engine. Bolster this with Hauberk of Mail, Ancestral Armor and Gondorian Shield to take him up to 8 with the ability to ready. Elladan ought to be given Orcrist, Mighty Prowess and either Warrior Sword or Rivendell Blade from the other deck.

As for the allies, Gandalf is the biggest name there. Keep him around you can afford his threat, but try and spread the love with Defender of the West. The other deck can provide Wild Stallion to give him 5s across the board, and Narya takes this a step further to ready himself and give him 6 and 6.

The fastest way to get allies into play is A Very Good Tale. Combine this with Citadel Custodian and Soldier of Gondor, and you can find your ally count balloon rapidly, especially after you pass 40 threat. Veteran of Osgiliath will be a bulwark of your deck, able to throw his stats wherever needed while Fornost Bowman, Guardian of Arnor and Vigilant Dúnadan take care of the various types of enemies you will encounter.

Represented by this deck are elements of Gondor and Rohan's military forces as well as the presence of the Dunedain who follow their chieftain wherever he leads. These are the rank and file of the soldiers of Gondor and Arnor, folk who have left their homes and kin to fight for Middle-Earth. Everyone has their part to play, and no act of valour is needless in this most desperate of times.
