Solar 25

Solar has a newer deck inspired by this one: The Stewards Vanguard (The Massing at Osgiliath Solo progres

A solo progression deck with a single core set.

A again this focused on stealth. Moving on from Return to Mirkwood, it was time for Khazad-dum. A solo dwarf / deck attempt didn't get very far, the first turn with 7+threat is a real killer. So the Rohirrim were called upon to ride into dark halls. (I'm sure the halls are big enough right?)

NB: I've since realised two things (Well one thing, I didnt read the cards properly). the East Gate is in the active location so doesn't contribute threat - why on earth does it have threat? Also, there are no engagements up until the East gate is explored, not the whole of quest 1b. Madness!

Stealth is again key here but now almost all treacheries are terrible and the cave torch is a liability (unless it is quest 2b with an enemy on the top deck) with an inbuilt, albeit optionally outside of questing, surge. I really have no time for the goblin followers and the zigil mineshaft is nasty (but ok if you have 5 threat lying around). Due to the small number of dwarfs in this deck it didn't make sense adding in the new cards dwarf. Also Dwalin while seemingly good for a stealth deck just cant step up to managing the enemies without some weapons/abilities which are confined to and .

Dúnhere was however built for this quest and as all enemies apart from the goblin follower stay in the staging area for the first (and most arduous) part of the quest, so he is free to pick all of them all off apart from the patrol leader.

Quest Strategy: Mulligan to get Secret Paths for the East gate then travel there first turn, if you fail to then it is an uphill struggling that is going downhill fast, but not impossible. Scrying with again is vital with Denethor, eased with Unexpected Courage, Rumour from the Earth and Henamarth Riversong. Save one Gandalf for the Patrol Leader kill in phase 2 (and make sure an enemy is not on top of the deck), avoid goblin follower for 1st stage and zigil mineshafts in general. In quest 2b Denethor will be main defender, hopefully with a A Burning Brand and/or Protector of Lórien. There should be very few enemies left over from Dúnhere's scouting in quest 1b but save A Light in the Dark for quest 2b if there are too many enemies to handle. Ensure plenty of allies before stage 3.

Utility cards such as Miner of the Iron Hills, Forest Snare should be held back for watchful eyes and extra patrol leader/goblin followers respectively. but attachments can be discarded if you have Erebor Hammersmith in hand.

In terms of resource management, be frugal with resources until you can secure a Song of Wisdom. It doesn't always happen that you get one and the quest is winnable without provided due caution. There also needs to be quite a few discards to help quest progress with Éowyn so don't be shy of dumping Gildor Inglorion or Gléowine when resources are tight. It might be better to switch out a Song of Travel for Song of Wisdom but the cards really need to be ready to hit the table when needed, and with Gandalf the main resource drain, even resources get tight.

And it seems to me you lived your life

Like a candle in the Rohirrim

Never fading with the cave torch

When the dark set in

And your hoofbeats will always fall here

Along Moria's empty halls

Your torch light's burned out long before

Your legend ever will... Ride!
