I realize I am slightly late to the party with the dwarf mining deck. However, I am late due to the fact that I have spent a lot of time refining this into my best dwarf deck, if not my best deck, I have ever built. Watch the first three turns of a game, just the planning phase, and you will see why the deck has such immense power.

Opening hand: Did not record, since I mulliganed. New hand was Legacy of Durin, Steward of Gondor, Daeron's Runes, Hidden Cache, Miner of the Iron Hills, and A Very Good Tale. I have to keep it, but it's fairly good.

Draw: Daeron's Runes.

Play Daeron's Runes. Draw Ered Luin Miner and Steward of Gondor, discarding the duplicate Steward. Play the second copy, drawing Erebor Record Keeper and Will of the West and discarding Hidden Cache.

Play Legacy of Durin (Ori 0). Attach to Dain.

ROUND TWO

Draw: King Under the Mountain.

Play Steward of Gondor on Dain, exhausting it to recoup the two resources.

Play King Under the Mountain (Dain 0). Exhaust it, taking Lure of Moria into hand and discarding a duplicate Legacy of Durin.

Play Erebor Record Keeper, drawing Ered Nimrais Prospector with Legacy of Durin.

ROUND THREE

Draw: We Are Not Idle.

Play We Are Not Idle. Exhaust all four dwarves to add four resources to Ori taking him to five. Draw another copy of A Very Good Tale.

Play Ered Nimrais Prospector. Discard Hidden Cache (two resources on Dain making his total 5), Erebor Hammersmith and Ered Nimrais Prospector off of the top of my deck and drawing Hardy Leadership with Legacy of Durin. Shuffle back We Are Not Idle.

Play Hardy Leadership (Dain 3).

Hardcast Ered Luin Miner using two from Nori (0) and 1 from Ori (2). Draw Narvi's Belt with Legacy.

Play A Very Good Tale. Exhaust the Miner and Prospector. Discard two Zigil Miners, one Blue Mountain Trader, one copy of We Are Not Idle and Kili. I put Kili and one Zigil Miner into play, discarding the rest.

Play second A Very Good Tale. Exhaust Kili and the Miner, which discards Ered Luin Miner, Hidden Cache, King Under the Mountain, Erebor Hammersmith, and Ered Nimrais Prospector. Put all three allies into play, add two resources to Dain (5) and return the King Under the Mountain to my hand with the Hammersmith. Discard Steward of Gondor, Erebor Record Keeper, and Dori from my deck, shuffling We Are Not Idle back in.

Play Miner of the Iron Hills (Ori 0). Draw Dwalin with Legacy of Durin.

Play Dwalin for 1 (Nori 0). Draw Fili with Legacy.

Use King Under the Mountain (seems like a weird time to do so but I had forgotten). Take Zigil Miner into hand and discard Legacy of Durin.

Play Fili (Dain 2). Kili is already in play but I want the card that Legacy of Durin will give me, which is We Are Not Idle!

Play We Are Not Idle. Exhaust my 10 ready dwarves to add 10 resources to Dain's pool and draw a card, which is Erebor Hammersmith.

Play Lure of Moria (Dain 9).

Play Narvi's Belt. Attach to Dain, who is at 7 resources.

Exhaust Narvi's Belt to name Spirit, then play Zigil Miner (Dain 5), drawing Erebor Battle Master. Exhaust the Miner naming cost 3, which discards Bifur and Fili. I add two resources to Ori (2).

Play Erebor Hammersmith with Ori's new resources, returning Legacy of Durin to my hand and drawing a Blue Mountain Trader.

Play Blue Mountain Trader (Dain 3), drawing A Very Good Tale.

Play final A Very Good Tale. Exhaust Dwalin and Fili to discard two copies of Gloin, an Erebor Record Keeper, Ered Luin Miner, and We Are Not Idle. I put the three allies into play.

Play Will of the West (Dain 2), shuffling all the cards in my discard back into my deck.

To recap, I just played three turns and I got 17 dwarf allies into play. I drew through my entire deck except for one card, then reshuffled it. I reduced my threat by 9 with Nori, putting it at 21 accounting for me having played two turns through. Sure, that turn three might have made any partners you had pointedly glancing at their watches, but other than that the deck runs rather smoothly. And the example I just gave isn't rigged or the "best of ten tries." I took the deck, shuffled it up, and played with it. What you saw is what the deck does normally. Just don't take these against Escape from Dol Guldur and you're fine.

Enjoy the deck!

Why only one copy of Will of the West? Unless I'm missing something you have no way to recur it, so if it winds up in your discard, (very likely given a mining deck), you're out of luck. Right?

@Some Sort The reason for the single copy is that normally by the time your deck is depleted, you have enough dwarves to be getting on with and can just sit back and play the few dwarves left in your deck after you reshuffle it rather than go into a mining frenzy like you do for the first few turns. If it ends up in your discard, you can save an Ered Nimrais Prospector in your hand and wait until your deck is empty, then shuffle it back in to draw and play it the next turn.

Thank you for your feedback!

Oh, yup. Totally forgot about the prospector. Figured I had to be missing something.

Thanks!

@emorlecallor great deck! Ironically I've been currently playing with a deck with the same 3 heroes and the exact same concept and cards, (minus a few of the cards I do not own). I really love your mining aspect and completely believe it works wonders since I've seen something similar in action. Just 1 question: why only one copy of Lure of Moria? Thanks for sharing the deck :), looks great.

@Erisau19 Thank you for your kind words! The reason behind the single copy of Lure of Moria is because I believe that it slows the deck down. As you can see from the play report above, the deck is designed to move at a rapid pace, and Lure is only really useful when you have 8+ dwarves just sitting around twiddling their thumbs and you also have We Are Not Idle. Otherwise, it is taking up a card slot that could be used for a cheap dwarf or something else useful, and its cost of three is prohibitive- those resources could be going to a dwarf ally or a key attachment. It can be really useful once you have a lot of dwarves in play, but that typically isn't until later on in the game, so it's less essential.

Can't wait to try this one. I was wondering if you had any axes and/or Well-Equipped in there at any point?

Jul 15, 2016 emorlecallor 1276

@dragonwarriorfan Thanks! I had a LOT of stuff in the deck at one point. Sneak Gandalf, Durin's Song, To Me! O My Kinsfolk!, etc. Well-Equipped was in at one point, but I had to cut it to get down to 50 cards. It was more a casualty of deck space and was one of the last cards I cut out. You can sub it in for the Blue Mountain Traders if you want to though. I just prefer the Traders since they're cheap and I can play them without using resources from my two big spheres, Leadership and Lore.

@emorlecallor 1 Lure of Moria makes sense! Thanks for clarifying for me :), big help.

When you use your second We Are Not Idle, you say you have 10 ready dwarves. However, it appears that you have already exhausted 4 dwarves for your first WANI. When counting the dwarves you play through A Very Good Tale and from your hand, I only count six ready dwarves. Did I make a mistake?

Love the deck though, it looks brilliant and fun to play!!
