The basic idea of this deck is to use Beregond's cost reduction and Erestor's card draw to flip the contract quickly. Everything in the deck that can go on Beregond goes on him for free. The best are Raiment of War, Gondorian Shield and a Spear of the Citadel (the Raven-winged Helm is for him too, but doesn't count towards your restricted slot). The various noldor items—Steed of Imladris, Rivendell Blade, Elven Spear—can go on the two others. A number of items are for whomever needs another restricted (Dagger of Westernesse, Round Shield, extra Gondorian Shields). Mulligan for lots of restricted attachments. With a little bit of luck you can get the contract flipped in round one.
You want to attach Light of Valinor when you can; often I can get it out round one while still flipping the contract. Depending on the quest it might be worth delaying the flip for a round to attach it. Beregond and Glorfindel are the priorities for the Golden Belts, probably but not necessarily in that order. The final one goes on Erestor.
After this, smooth out the restricted attachments (replacing sub-optimal placings with better ones) and attach Unexpected Courage as quickly as possible (two for Beregond, one for Glorfindel). If I can I try to leave a spirit resource on Glorfindel at the end of the round so I can be sure to play a Courage the next round if I draw one.
The rest of the items are in the 'it's nice but not essential' category: Thorongil on Beregond (for extra threat management and some resource smoothing); the Song of Wisdom/A Burning Brand combo on Beregond to guard against prevent attachment-discarding shadows (an early Brand can go on Erestor to make him a back-up defender and help fill out his restricted slots). Stone of Elostirion goes on Erestor, and Silver Circlet on Glorfindel, unless you find you need to use all his slots for weapons (which you might); and Asfaloth goes on Glorfindel, of course. Some of these items might be prioritized depending on the quest.
The White Council is useful for a lot of things. Aside from the obvious readying, it can be used to transfer resources and to shuffle any cards that you missed back into the deck.
Lords of the Eldar is for after your deck is empty: recycle it every other round to boost yourself, and then next round toss it to place a resource with the Steed.
When fully set up, Beregond defends—multiple times with the Courages—for somewhere in the 7-8 range (depending on the precise attachments you end up with; there are more in here than he can use even with a Golden Belt). Glorfindel both quests and attacks; depending on the quest, you can emphasize one or the other in your choice of attachments; a Silver Circuit, Rivendel Blade and one other is a good start. And Erestor mostly quests, but he can pinch-hits as an attacker or (occasionally) defender, depending on the situation.
The deck has 51 cards because I didn't want to cut anything. If you have to cut something I'd either go down to x1 Spear of the Citadel or drop one of the Open the Armorys.
The sideboard includes cards in earlier versions of the deck: I found I didn't really need Will of the West or Elven-light, particularly once I dropped the Protector of Lórien; Elf-friend on Beregond was a bit too hard to set up for too little pay-off. The remainder are restricted attachments I decided against for various reasons (mostly wanting to use the slots for other things). However, if you're playing in mutli-player and/or the quest throws up a lot of encounter-deck side quests, then Legacy Blade would become a good choice (probably swapping in for Elven Spear).
Good hunting!

Oct 20, 2021If you draw into the right cards. Everything's free on Beregond, so he can get two if you draw into ones. Then Glorfindel & Erestor each get one for free, and it's just about having the other two to put on them. If you get either one 0-cost one, or one tactics and one spirit, you're done. It's better to get a free one, especially if you draw Light of Valinor, since that way you end getting that out to. So just one example, you might end up with: Beregond: Raiment of War & Gondorian Shield (both free) Erestor: Round Shield & Elven Spear (both free) Glorfindel: Rivendell Blade (free), Dagger of Westernesse (1 tactics resource) and Light of Valinor (1 spirit resource) But there are a lot of variations. You don't always get it—you have to draw the right cards—but I'd say it's at least half the time. |
how are you getting it flipped round one
