Why put Boromir with Glorfindel when pairing him with Glorfindel would lower his starting threat dramatically, and give him access to Elrond's Counsel as well? Well, it's simple. He's Boromir. He deserves a handicap. It's not like Glorfindel is inherently a bad hero, he's a good-but-expensive hero overshadowed by his evil spirit twin.
So what advantages do I get from having the wrong Glorfindel for Boromir. Not many, but these are the ones I've found:
1) Song of Wisdom not only sets up use of A Burning Brand on Boromir, it can be used to help play green cards. 2) Glorfindel's little-used healing ability is no substitute for Warden of Healing , but it's available from the beginning of the game and sometimes you really need some healing. Note that you can use it after the shadow is revealed, but before damage is applied. 3) If you're playing in the Against the Shadow cycle, Local Trouble attaches to Glorfindel first, not Boromir.
So besides sticking Boromir with the unpopular Glorfindel, I've stuck him with the even less popular Dori. Dori's job is generally to assist defense, either by defending directly or buffing Boromir or Denethor in the other deck. Both have good defensive bones, but until they get Gondorian Shield will routinely need buffing, and neither is sentinel.
In general, the goal is to turn Boromir into the superhero, though we've again handicapped him by including only 2 Gondorian Fire in this deck and only one Blood of Númenor in the other deck -- with LeDenethor around, it's possible to pile resources high on Boromir if you want to. I've included Henneth Annûn Guard as a way to give Sentinel in planning to Boromir for Armored Destrier or The Day's Rising, though it'd probably be more efficient to just rely on Dúnedain Signal in the other deck for that purpose.
The sideboard has extra copies of Secret Vigil for extra threat reduction, and extra copies of the Brand and Song for quests with unusual shadow nastiness. Thror's Map is for quests with obnoxious travel, Miner of the Iron Hills for quests with conditions, Westfold Outrider for obnoxious enemies in staging, and extra Warden of Healing for quests with direct damage.
The other deck has Idraen in it, who can be enabled with Asfaloth or Mirkwood Explorer.
