DazeMan 723

Story:

The Battle of the Five Armies has ended and Thorin Oakenshield as well as the line of Durin have survived the battle. Claiming his right as King Under the Mountain, Thorin becomes the leader of one of the wealthiest kingdoms in Middle-Earth. Through his journey to the Lonely Mountain and survival of the battle, he has learned the power of the unification of Dwarves, Elves and Men. Thorin went on to wisely mine through Erebor and the other mountains in Middle-Earth. However, since having the assistance of Elrond on his journey, he found that he regularly seeks the wisdom of the Last Homely House. The Imladris Stargazershelp the dwarves to wisely find the treasures they seek. Thorin even developed a trade agreement with the angry Steward of Gondor, Denethor, for he was an admirer of Dwarven craft.

Why build a Dwarf deck in 2017?? I have always liked Dwarves and Thorin Oakenshield is one of my favorite characters in Middle-Earth. I have always wanted to try the Digging concept and this is what I came up with. Also, I anticipate that Dwarf pipes are going to fit well in this deck, for their response will probably trigger off of discarding cards from deck, on believe this because of the release of Ered Luin Miner and then Erebor Guard shortly after. So, I focused on making a deck that makes you feel like a super wealthy dwarf.

How it Works:

You want Erebor Guard or Imladris Stargazer in opening hand. If you have both, that's awesome. This deck is going to dig through your deck, so it focuses more on draw manipulation rather than more and more cards. If Erebor Guard is the first ally you play, use its response, cross your fingers and hope to discard an Ered Luin Miner because that gives you 5 Dwarves on turn 1 (this only happened once during play testing).

Once you get some Dwarves down, hopefully you can have a Stargazer and Zigil Miner within a couple turns. Use the Imladris Stargazer to manipulate your deck and the Zigil Miner to give you resources. Don't feel like you always have to use the Miner's ability, if you are just wanting to manipulate your deck for your card draw, that is a smart option. I Typically like to use the miner to get rid of dead uniques. If you play Steward of Gondor then I suggest putting it on Óin because he will have the and icons. Will of the West gets played either when you really want something back from your discard pile or your deck is depleted. Then the Digging begins all over again.

I use my allies primarily as defenders (Erebor Guard and Dwalin). If you give them a copy of Ring Mail they can decently defend for a while.

For a massive resource boost, with We Are Not Idle in hand with Lure of Moria, you can exhaust all your Dwarves to get a bunch of resources and then ready them. One thing I have not struggled with in playing this deck is resources, and because of Nori, Threat is never a problem either.

Unexpected Courage goes on Thorin Oakenshield, because if you cannot get your Erebor Battle Master out, you will want his attack power.

This deck has played really well against the most current quests and is lots of fun. It is nice to use a Dwarf deck that is efficient and does not use Dain Ironfoot. If you are playing co-op or multiplayer throw in Errand-rider or Parting Gifts to share the wealth, or attach Steward of Gondor to a friends hero. Or if you want to be thematic (I.e a greedy Dwarf) then keep all the wealth to yourself ;)...

Also, there is no Hidden Cache because I don't have it in my card pool. Hopefully those FFG boats will bring it in soon. But if you have it in your card pool, throw it in there.
