Synopsis:

This deck illustrates why Glóin is one of the best resource engines in the game. The deck tries to build up Glóin's hit points through card as Citadel Plate, Ent Draught, Hardy Leadership and Boots from Erebor to allow you to take enemy attacks undefended. The damage from these undefended attacks results in a lot of resources which allows you to build up your board state relatively easy.

How it's played:

The Grey Wanderer target is Ent Draught to immediately increase Glóin's hit points. You don't run any Ents so this is the only opprtunity to get the card in play. In your opening hand you basically look for draw and/or Citadel Plate. Resources will come rather easily, so it's important to make sure you have enough cards to play. In the early game you look to grow Glóin's potential by increasing his hit points, usually this is followed up by playing the healing allies and attachments and you finish by playing the 'big' allies.

There are some utility cards for the player group: Palantir, Path of Need and Strength of Arms. These can all be very powerful so use them wisely.

To conclude there are a few nuances we like to highlight when you play the deck.

  • Athelas only attaches to Healer/Dúnedain. You don't have these traits per setup so you can whiff on Galadriel despite there being an attachment of cost < 3.
  • Galadriel allows you to reorder your top 5. This is very useful since you can maximize your draws, minimize the penalty for the discard of King Under the Mountain and make sure an ally is in the top 5 when you play Timely Aid.
  • Try to use the The Grey Wanderer every round. All 3 options are very good for this deck: Healing to take care of Glóin, readying to compensate Palantir and resources to be able to play all cards.
  • The Grey Wanderer only applies to the first non-unique played in the planning phase. So many of the unique cards should be played before you decide on what non-unique card you play first in the phase.

Strengths: Early Defense, Scrying

Weaknesses: Early Willpower
