The Siege of Gondor progression

Description

My progression fellowship for the Siege of Gondor. All the direct damage is a perfect excuse to go for a Glóin deck on one side, while the other one is an adapted fighting deck that reuses ideas I often followed during the Against the Shadow cycle. Both decks enable a semi-voltron Aragorn.

General gameplan: Generate resources through Glóin and The Day's Rising. Heal as much as you can so you can get about 6-8 rounds to establish your board without having to take additional encounter cards. Defend with Beregond. Pick the Corsair Dromon as your first two ship locations in the staging area, and clear them with Asfaloth as soon as you travel there so you don't have to suffer the archery. Don't put the direct damage on Beregond to prevent nasty shadow effects. Once you can afford it, travel to the final location and combat and quest through.

The Warriors Deck - notable cards:

Beregond boosted by Gondorian Shield gets the first two copies of Unexpected Courage (the third one can help Legolas) and lowers threat where he can, defending most attacks across the board.

Beechbone, Booming Ent, Derndingle Warrior and Skinbark help with their great stats but also with their many hitpoints. A good sum of hitpoints and willpower is also the reason I included Pelargir Shipwright. The Riddermark's Finest combined with Asfaloth can let you clear The Umbar War Galley immediately after you travel there, without having to suffer through its engagement cost lowering effect. Arwen Undómiel can help Beregond before he gets his shield, after which she can make Bifur a reasonable defender against less powerful enemies.

Ring of Barahir and Banner of Elendil boost Aragorn's hitpoints and enable him to help your questing and attacking power (besides letting him quest without exhaustion). The weapons go first and foremost on Legolas, while Foe-hammer helps the card draw.

Mulligan for: Gondorian Shield. Some weapons, Unexpected Courage or Light of Valinor are also good to see.

Dwarves deck - notable cards:

Glóin is your resource engine, able to directly transfer one resource on Bifur every round, and the other ones can go wherever they are needed once you have found your Errand-riders. Always put the direct damage on Glóin, as much as he can take without dying. Ori is the card draw engine once you hit your five dwarves, which could actually take some time. Don't forget to use the Errand-riders every turn, otherwise Glóin will be swimming in resources with no cards to spend them on. At the beginning, all dwarven heroes usually quest, once Aragorn has his boosts, you can possibly hold Bifur back for defending or Ori for attacking.

Besides Warden of Healing and Galadhrim Healer, Elrond can also help with healing, best used on a boosted Aragorn or Glóin. Erebor Hammersmith has many hitpoints and can get you your attachments back (there is a bit of attachment hate in the encounter deck). Don't forget to spread some love with Gléowine, especially if your Ori card draw engine is already running.

Asfaloth is great at dealing with some ship locations during the phase you travel there, but also with the city locations in the staging area that otherwise slow you down. Boots from Erebor go on Glóin, as does Self Preservation. Hardy Leadership is very important for your hitpoints, and The Day's Rising is a great resource generation for the other deck when put on Beregond. Finally, Banner of Elendil, Sword that was Broken and Celebrían's Stone are other toys for Aragorn, boosting your questing power and giving him additional spheres.

Gildor's Counsel can help you delay the encounter deck once your healing begins to crack. Durin's Song patches a possible underquesting or Bifur's defense against minor enemies. Save Waters of Nimrodel for later on in the game for maximal effect (it can give you a round or two worth of hitpoints) and only use the Daeron's Runes when you know you already have a duplicate unique card on your hand, there is a lot of them in the deck (Asfaloth, Hardy Leadership, Sword that was Broken, The Day's Rising, possibly Fili).

Mulligan for: Asfaloth / Hardy Leadership. Warden of Healing and dwarven allies are also great to see.
