dalestephenson 1715

dalestephenson has a newer deck inspired by this one: Black Serpent Spirit/Lore

This deck is part of a fellowship designed to use all the cards from The Black Serpent. As a result, it's a little bloated and inefficient.

Fastred is the hero from the pack, so he was required, and Dúnhere is an obvious choice to go with him.

Fearless Scout is useful for practically nothing except eligibility for Scouting Party, so I wanted my questing heroes to be scouts, except one -- and the one exception I chose was Pippin. Pippin is beautiful because he works well with Fastred/Dunhere in a low threat deck -- engage an enemy, draw a card, Fastred pops it back in staging and reduces threat, and Dunhere kills it. He also makes a target for Hobbit Pipe, which is important because the pack also includes:

Old Toby, and Old Toby wants pipes. So in went Bilbo Baggins to fetch one (there's two hobbit pipes in case we've already found one. The pack also includes Dúnedain Pipe, but now I have a problem -- I have no Dunedain hero in this deck. So I added Súlien as an ally and target for the pipe. She's a good quester and a scout, so a great target for scouting party. And as long as I'm doing the pipe thing, why not include the Dwarf Pipe as well. That should recycle from Zigil Miner, so in went Zigil and his best friend, Imladris Stargazer. I threw in Hidden Cache for the miner to find, and also a copy of Elven-light for card draw.

Rally the West is the only other spirit/lore card from this pack, but it stands on its own and needs no support. Which is good, because, two other cards in the pack (Song of Hope and Burst into Song) want plenty of songs thrown around. I chose Elfhelm for the other deck, because he's a scout and with mounts and songs he can buff people in all sorts of interesting ways. So this deck and its superior draw gets saddled with a lot of songs:

Song of Eärendil to share the threat load on the other deck. Fireside Song to buff Pippin's willpower further. Song of Battle to buff the attack of Dúnhere and one of the leadership heroes. Song of Kings to buff Fastred's defense. Song of Travel goes on the questing heroes (Pippin first). Song of Wisdom goes on Fastred to make him a Burning Brand candidate. And with all these songs running around, Love of Tales is also included, plus a Rivendell Minstrel to fetch whichever song we want the most right now.

Elfhelm wants mounts so we have Hobbit Pony for Pippin (and shenanigans with Elevenses. Song of Travel will also let us put Windfola or Steed of Imladris on him (or another questing hero, if we have two Songs of Travel in play). Steed of the Mark will be used on one of the heroes in the other deck, since we want to save restricted slots for Dunhere and Fastred for attack/defense. And Westfold Horse-breeder will fetch one of the mounts for me.

Aside from the always-useful Gléowine, all the allies I haven't mentioned are questing allies with the scout trait, so can be enhanced by the scouting party.
