Gimli and Legolas! A long-expected friendship! Someone had to do it.
This ends up being all about Gimli, and Legolas is totally just his sidekick. With Steward of Gondor, he gains the Gondor trait and can have Livery of the Tower. Prevent the exact amount of damage to use Dwarven Shield and The Day's Rising each turn, and money just flows in. And right back out again, to Livery.
Of course, Legolas dual-wielding Mirkwood Long-knife, questing and then attacking once or twice, is nothing to sneeze at either.
This deck is a terrible quester compared to most Spirit decks - designed to be played alongside a mono-Lore quest-and-card-draw deck. Yet another of my patented one-copy-of-everything-unique decks; Steward of Gondor is my only exception. There is still redundancy built-in, with
- Arwen Undómiel, Dwarven Shield, Livery of the Tower, and from the other deck Protector of Lórien, all for defense
- Théodred, Dwarven Shield and The Day's Rising for money, along with all the events and Steward of Gondor
- A bazillion ways to draw cards, plus Galadriel for hunting attachments.
About the Sideboard
Eldahir is expensive; could be interesting with mono-lore alongside, but with Gimli all beefed up, he shouldn't be needed. Celebrían's Stone and Ethir Swordsmen can boost questing, but ended up unnecessary once the green deck got a good start. The rest of this is all junk now. As a reminder to myself, from most recent working backwards to oldest:
- Armored Destrier was nice, but I need Dwarven Shield and Livery of the Tower more. Use Unexpected Courage and Heir of Mardil for more blocks.
- Stand and Fight was going to get me a Master of the Forge from the other player's deck, but it's easier to just draw my whole deck.
- Sword-thain could be neat for extra money, but by the time you can afford it, it's too late to bother.
- Silvan Refugee doesn't work with Gandalf or Sneak Attack. Oops.
- Tactics Aragorn, all the other tactics, and Sword that was Broken are an interesting idea in theory. In practice, this deck is running few allies, so Sword is not interesting, and therefore 3-coloring Aragorn isn't a great plan.
- All of the dwarves with A Very Good Tale and Faramir: good idea, but not in this deck, because there are too many attachments and events I want. They go nicely with We Are Not Idle, especially Fili and Kili, but they just aren't that strong when I only run a few of them.
- Reinforcements and Song of Kings: this was never a real option, but it theoretically went with the dwarf/Tale idea.
I've been building a similar deck, but I have more allies. How does this work with only 4 allies?
