After the Hobbiton Blues, I decided to change the main idea of my old green deck just a bit.
I still have Sméagol (it's not easy to keep him away) and two silvan heroes watching him... but now two different ones. Haldir and Henamarth are still there, but now as allies. Card draw and secrecy have been improved with cards like Peace, and Thought and Out of the Wild. Overall, I think the deck feels more powerful and more consistent now.
Heroes:
Notes:
- Mulligan for some scrying and some card draw.
- Use Henamarth Riversong or Risk Some Light at the end of the combat phase to safety play Peace, and Thought.
- Resourceful should be played twice before loosing secrecy. We have several cards to find it:
- Mithrandir's Advice, Peace, and Thought, Keen as Lances.
- Gléowine, Gildor Inglorion, Haleth's response.
- Sméagol has low threat and pretty good stats. I barely use his response. Besides, we have several ways to avoid Stinker:
- Firyal is the obvious choice (it goes to the discard pile).
- Henamarth + Risk Some Light (bottom of the encounter deck).
- Henamarth + Out of the Wild (victory display).
- Once Firyal is in play, Henamarth may be also useful for peeking at shadow cards. especially while the Burning Brand doesn't show up.
- Gaffer Gamgee is another great option for avoiding not just shadow cards but the entire enemy-attack step.
- Out of the Wild will boost Rossiel's stats and reduce the cost of Keen as Lances at the same time.
- Play it on combat phase, before using Henamarth.
- Most preferred response for Keen as Lances is threat reduction.
- Out of the Wild and Risk Some Light should also be used outside secrecy. Their abilities are worth their 3 cost.
- Scroll of Isildur's preferred target will be Risk Some Light.
- Use resources from Treebeard to prepare him (this can be done multiple times per phase).
How to "safety" play Glamdring:
- Do NOT play Faramir (*) if Glamdring has not been found.
- Once Faramir + Glamdring are in hand:
- Use scrying and wait for the next non-unique enemy in the encounter deck.
- Risk Some Light can be useful for choosing the enemy by convenience.
- Play Glamdring. Target enemy will be revealed as Glamdring's guardian.
- Play Faramir. Target enemy will be engaged and it will receive 4 damage (since it has an attachment on it).
- Glamdring is now free to be claimed.
(*) A similar strategy can be applied (in combat phase) using The Great Hunt instead of Faramir.
- With the hunt keep in mind that you will need to deal with enemy's until reaching the combat phase.
Sideboard:
- Daeron's Runes means free card draw. However, Mithrandir's Advice and Peace, and Thought are more than enough.
- Besides, I prefer to save my discards for Protector of Lórien.
- Vanish from Sight could be useful when Stinker cannot be avoided and we have Resourceful, Out of the Wild, or Risk Some Light still in hand.
