Discard Pile
|
Gauze 81
This deck aims at tackling the quests in the core set using some cards from the ered mithrin cycle, making the most of the heroes' essence.
As you can imagine, threat level should be kept low to boost Dúnhere's ability to attack the staging area. Attach him Bow of Yew and Glamdring asap to make enemies bite the dust almost as soon as they are revealed and draw a Card with each of your victims.
Éowyn will always be commited to questing. Use her ability to send to the discard pile the attachments and allies from other spheres, wich you can regain and play by means of Reforged and Stand and Fight asap. Attach her Protector of Lórien so that you can discard them even faster as your hope stats rocket up.
Denethor will help the fellowship to defend, send inconvenient encounter cards to the bottom of the pile (the combo with Henamarth Riversong makes the preparation for the quest phase run smoothly), and mainly defend against enemies.
Looking at allies, you should try to join Northern Trackers, Valiant Determination, and Wild Stallions. They are other good candidates to get the Protector of Lórien and relieve Denethor from his defensive tasks. On the other hand, Lórien Guides get Grey Cloak to keep enemies on the staging area when they aren't so necessary to place progres on the active location. The Wandering Took is also a good alternative to wear the cloak.
Depending on your own strategy style, you might consider replacing the guides or the tooks and their cloaks by Horseback Archers, who would take the bows of yew and boost your attack. This way you could also include Horn of Gondor and a third bow or accomodate the deck to your preferences.
Gondorian Spearman may also benefit from wild stallions, although you'd rather choose them to block or give the final blow to those enemies that survive Dúnhere.
Gléowine's task is to get an extra Card on each turn. Getting Leather Boots on him will help you draw a second Card any time a new location is drawn from the encounters deck.
About attachments, use Unexpected Courage and Glamdringon Dúnhere, Ancestral Armor and Leather Boots on Denethor and, finally, The Favor of the Lady and Steward of Gondor on Eowyn.
Use Woodmen's Clearing to lower your threat alongside The Galadhrim's Greeting. Use Gandalf's ability at your own convenience according to situational demands.
Finally, control the threat level in the staging area using Secret Paths and Radagast's Cunning, improve your drawing pace with Lórien's Wealth and use A Light in the Dark to stop enemies from escaping from Dunhere's reach. You can always reboot your deck with Will of the West.
