Once upon a time Thranduil walked through his woods and saw a bunch of humans. He was about to say: “It is a crime to walk in my realm without leave”, but then he recognized their bows and lovely green uniforms. So, he hesitated and thought: My Silvans love bows, too! And we really love all things that are as green as my forest! Thus he decided to talk to them and after some nice small talk he realized, that those rangers, as they called themselves not only loved the trees as his own The Tree People, but they also hated orcs and preferred to fight in the shadows with masterfully build traps, to avoid direct confronting enemies just like his own people with their Feigned Voices. And so it happened that they became friends and forged a mighty The Last Alliance!

I love to explore the many options for The Last Alliance and Rangers and Silvan seem to be a fiiting combination! The Last Alliance can be used for:

And of course the discount from The Last Alliance helps to build your board faster. Other cost reduction is delvered by O Lórien! and the thematically fitting Seasoned Forager. And if one of your traps snaps, you can play a costly Ranger (or Silvan) with Spring the Trap.

This decks tries to play at least one trap per round, that hopefully attaches to an enemy to draw a card with Damrod and reduce your thread with Celador (or ready him if necessary). If a trap attaches to a weak enemy, you can "recycle" it with It Should Be Spared. So you should mulligan for a trap. To never run out of traps Anborn helps to reuse all your fancy traps.

Another nice start for your opening hand is The Tree People and some cheap ally or Galadhrim Minstrel, to fetch The Tree People. The minstrel is a nice target for The Tree People, so you can use a ability more often.

Legolas is also a good start, as you can play him in the first combat phase thanks to Thranduil's ability and the discount from The Last Alliance. He helps a lot to draw more cards. Additional cards draw beside Damrod is proved by Mithrandir's Advice, so I seldom have trouble with keeping my hand filled.

Thranduil shines through his ability to play Silvan (or Ranger) allies without a ressource match in the combat phase. This enables you to play Legolas, Galadhon Archer and the powerful Northern Tracker. Or you can play one of the helpful allies with "enters play"-effects like Greenwood Archer, Guardian of Ithilien or Andrath Guardsman. Thranduil main task is to defend enemies, that slip through your traps.

But often he don't has to defend anything, as you have a lot of options to avoid attacks from the enemy:

The other traps help to weaken (Entangling Nets) or kill them slowly (Poisoned Stakes), before they ever engage you.

Damrod and Celador quest, at least in the early game, and deliver a lot of card draw and threat reduction. And of course Damrod discount keeps your trap engine running!

Faramir helps a lot to enhance your questing power and Henamarth Riversong enables you to decide which cards to play (e.g. if a trap is useful, because the next encounter is an enemy), especially in solo play he is really powerful.

Healing is handled en suitable with Silvan Tracker.

As you have a lot of ranged attack power, this deck pairs well with strong defending decks. But a mentioned above, I have seldom problems with defense because of all the possibilities to avoid strikes from the enemy.

The side board offers some options:

Neat! I always forget that you can use "occupational" traits with The Last Alliance....cool idea!

this is the point where alepcards become slightly op. (up to 3 res discount per round, contract, o#lorien and seasoned foreigners in addition to the other benefits)

beside that, good deck ;)

@doomguard I completely agree with you that a lot of ALeP cards are OP. Do you think that's true for The Last Alliance? It does almost seem like an auto include in a lot of cases (No obvious downsides, provides great combos AND gives ally cost reduction)

the contract alone is not, and it is a very good addition to boost some "weaker" traits (traits without discount) like warrior, scout, ranger, eagle, beornings...

but it become to good if used with the traits that have allready a discount (noldor (to the sea), silvan (o´lorien), rohan(s-theoden))

For me the most important aspect of the The Last Alliance is, that it offers a lot of decisions during the whole game. I love decks, where you have many options almost every turn and you have to think about what is the best option right now. So it is a lot of fun to play with this contract.

Other contracts like Forth, The Three Hunters! are powerful as well, but for me they often get boring after 2 or 3 turns, when the contract is flipped.

The discount is indeed powerful, but if it is op compared to none ALEP decks I am not sure, as there are "old" cards like Steward of Gondor, that are maybe even more powerful and work with any deck (with some leadership), while The Last Alliance imposes you some restricitions (e.g. no Gandalf-magic).

problem is, the contract is usable together with e.g. the steward. if they would have excluded additional discount in the round the contractdiscount is used (similar to what they have done at Seasoned Forager ), i would be totally agree with the contract.

furthermore, the game is designed (and imo balanced) for multiplayer, so, the unique stewrd is o.k. because it can only be 1 in the game, the contract + Seasoned Forager can be used by everyone, so in sum you can have a "steward" per player. and that is a higher powerlevel.

I feel like the ALeP cards are all trying to be Glorfindel/Light of Valinor/Steward of Gondor type level cards. The thing is, those cards are very powerful, but they are only a couple out of many cards in the card pool. There are other potions out there that aren't maybe game-changing, but are fun to play with. ALeP is trying to make ALL their cards be on that level

Maybe that's just me though. I haven't played with too many ALeP cards, so this is all just from a glance.

@JTTawney This is true in a way. I've heard that this is because they're trying to condense a bunch of high power level cards into a small number of releases; in short, they're trying to give a massive boost to each of the traits that they're trying to develop. In reality they are very concerned about power level, and though some of their stuff is overpowered when abused, I think they do their best to keep things in balance.

after some time with Alep i came to the conclusion, that a bit of Alep is o.k. but if you have to much it become easy op. i would make an average statement: using one of the card-types of alep: contract or hero(s) or deck its balanced, more you raise the powerlevel.

adding Thengel to a rohandeck, o.k. adding Thengel and The Last Alliance (and perhaps the new allies and Need Brooks No Delay ) it goes to far for my taste.

its a different thing with the new trait(s). even optimizing bree, it will not become op (same as a new trait that will come but i will not spoil). so, the new game-styles that are there or will come (as far as i am in) seems to me balanced even including maximum of alep-cards.
